PotNoodleTech Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I just cant believe how utterly retarded Avid Sibelius is. So I need to move the Licence Server from an Old Windows 2008 Server onto a new Windows 2012R2 server. This should be easy, right? Just like all the other software I've migrated recently. Just follow the half-a-page instructions and job done. No. So the licence server can not function behind a proxy server, so the way in which large institutions licence Sibelius can not function in a large institution due to the fact that large institutions always use proxy servers. So, on the old 2008 server, I can't actually deactivate the Sib Licences as it can't fathom how to connect to the internet. So now I can not go any further with activating the new licence server as to do that you need to deactivate the old licence server. Ok so I'll have to resort to the last ditch plan of phoning support. Oh but I can't can I. In order to submit a support call, you need to have an Avid Support code, which you need to buy, £30 for one support call. I've gone through all the numbers I can find and all the menu options and have been unsuccessful in speaking to a human. So hang on a sec, the software we paid thousands for perpetual licences that we actually own, won't let us even move it on to another PC or do anything useful in the future such as possibly add extra licences, without paying a ridiculous one off support fee just for the privilege of talking to a human being. Ladies and Gents, this is a masterclass in how not to run a company. Treat you're customers like dogs. I tell you one thing. When it's next time to upgrade versions, I will not be authorising anything to be purchased from Avid. That's the end of Avid and us. We will move to other software. *bangs head on desk at spending most of the day trying to do a 10 minute job*
Steve21 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) Haha funny you say that we had the exact same issues And even when we managed to get a code it wouldn't work as was a different version to the licenser download (which won't work with newer/older versions) We managed to get the code from their helpdesk for free though, I'll try to see if I can find the email with their contact details in if it'd help? (If we still got it at least) - Edit Sorry seems I can't find what account that email was on hmm. Will keep hunting Steve Edited October 30, 2015 by Steve21
SJA Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) Oh good luck with all that. We did it also, and it was a nightmare. It was also a horror just buying and obtaining upgrade software! I am determined to try and move the music department away from it to an alternative next time it's due for renewal/upgrade. Edited October 30, 2015 by SJA
3s-gtech Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 This is where you genuinely have to consider tethering a production server to your phone. Been there, done it (isolated from network of course). We're still dragging our heels on buying any more of their awful software, Avid are a shambles and I hope they pop (which may just happen yet).
mullet_man Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Am in the process of *trying* to move our Sibelius 7 license server to a new 2016 server from 2008r2. For some reason it won't deactivate via the program. I've been trying to ring them but the phone just rings out a few times and then does nothing. Then other options are asking for a support ID code or something which I don't have. I just need them to de-activate at their end so I can re-actactive on the new server. Shocking service. Wish me luck in trying to get somewhere this week!
3s-gtech Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Tried their other sales lines? Contact Sales | Avid bet they won't ignore your call if they think you want to spend more money with them.

I've managed to log a support case online, lets see if this gets anywhere. There phone system just seems to be looping around at the minute. I'll give them a few days before I try and ring agan.
GiggleKitteh Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 You could try avidcustomercare@avid.com I had a nightmare getting Avid Pro Tools updated. Can't remember how I originally got in touch but this was the email used once I had a job in place
mullet_man Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Thanks, they got back in touch same day via the case I opened online. I can't complain at that really!
PotNoodleTech Posted June 6, 2017 Author Posted June 6, 2017 Wow! I forgot I wrote the above that was quite the rant!! Will try again using above contact details.
Snoochieboochies Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 The rot set in with Sibelius when they chose to go down the subscription/perpetual licence route a couple of years back. A £30 fee on top for support is just insulting. A pox on them.

There is a contact form on their website, I just filled that in and got a reply same day. They deleted the old activation on the old server so I can re register on the new one. All pretty painless in the end. Still doesn't work straight through the app so had to use the use another internet connection option.
