I remember the full size tower case I had.

It had wheels too! Now I want the smallest most power efficient system possible (that can transcode to h264 in an instant!)

When I used to work for the LA we in about 2000 we found a bunch of full height hard drives (5.25"). We put them all in a huge tower and powered up. I'm sure the lights dimmed around Rotherham. The whole room vibrated too.

Nice. this is an ATX case and is going to be made into a storage / backup server.

Old case but brilliantly built, very solid. Loads of room. It is literally going to be a backup server.

Just need to pickup some sort of backplane such as Icydock. When Ive integrated it into my server room ill take some more photos of him up & running.

Cool. You going to RAID? Or something else planned ?

The case used to have 2 icydocks in on an 4 port raid card, Ive acquired case as everything has been moved to a new system but the icy's have also been added to the new system hence the spaces in the front.

Ive got a startech dock but it seems to of stopped reading disks... need to go on ebay and look for a RAID card

I still have my Chieftec Full Tower case at my grandfather's, can't bear to get rid of it yet (was first PC I built from scratch)

Know what you mean, No idea who made this one but its huge, and solid - i struggle to lift it when its empty let alone full of disks and a motherboard.

Very attached to it, will have it for a long time i reckon.

Didn't know if you'd run some sort of Linux if it was pure storage. I keep thinking about trying the synology free / open source / whatever it is OS.

Thought about it but need to replicate my Hyper-V estate so big lad will be running 2012 with Hyper-V.

Hence want to fill it full of disks to replicate my VM's. My other server is a FileServer but has ended up doing just about everything - Hyper-V - FTP, etc. Want to remove some of the roles and leave it just as a Fileserver.

I've got my SATA Startech Backplane installed... Have initiated a Remote Desktop and noticed the 1TB disk I put in is offline. Backplane off in't bin lol.

Nice. Cheers.

Might take a look... Although with the shipping charge it makes them roughly the same price as an Icy.

I have a cheap n cheerful Startech one. Have had it a while and its starting to die so need to sort summit quick!
