garethEds Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Another MDT 2013U1 issue that I've never encountered before. Windows 10 Enterprise base .wim installs. Goes to capture and on the 'Processing generalize phase SysPrep plugins' the capture just freezes. No idea what is happening and there is nothing in the logs. Just freeze. I am using HyperV 2012r2 to create the image so can delete and start again, but this is the third time the crash has happened. This happening to anyone else? Gareth
computer_expert Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Are you using the rereleased version of MDT 2013 update 1 (Build 8298)? 1
garethEds Posted October 19, 2015 Author Posted October 19, 2015 Yes indeed. I've even re-created the task sequences. When I start with a new OS I cut the task sequence right back - nothing get's installed, no software or WSUS updates. I do it this way just to check all is working. Then I add things back in one at a time, testing each step along the way. I guess this is the good thing about having HyperV - multiple attempts without wasting time. At the moment, it's failing at the first step. Not going to panic yet - it's only R&D time. Gareth
garethEds Posted October 19, 2015 Author Posted October 19, 2015 what version of waik are you using? Hi @sted - I downloaded the latest one just before I updated the server. I will check though. Is there a version number here I should be aware of? Gareth
sted Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 off hand no idea I just assumed there would be a windows 10 specific/compliant one 1
garethEds Posted October 19, 2015 Author Posted October 19, 2015 Hi @sted - yes the WAIK is updated for Windows 10. I[m stumped to be honest so I am going to spend some time re-installing MDT and WDS. Change to a more powerful server. I'm not going to do it right now - like I mentioned, it's only R&D and the deployment side is working fine. Something for after Christmas I think. Gareth
Gatt Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Not had it freeze, but I always get an error during sysprep about it failing to run the CopyFiles script But if I let it reboot and manually PXE boot it completes fine 1
User0 Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Hi, did you have any luck with this one? I'm having the same freezing issue during the sysprep stage of the capture task sequence.
garethEds Posted December 3, 2015 Author Posted December 3, 2015 Hi, did you have any luck with this one? I'm having the same freezing issue during the sysprep stage of the capture task sequence. No @User0 - I've given up to be honest as it's a busy time of year with my teaching. I've even given up playing with manual installs of Windows 10. I feel Win7 is servicing the needs of the school just fine at the moment so I'm not rushing. After reading some of the threads on Edugeek I think it will be a while before I bother again. Gareth

Gareth I've just tried again with the latest version of Windows 10 Enterprise and the same issue is apparent with freezing during the sysprep phase. Here is a screenshot.

garethEds Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 Just to close this issue - once the new Volume 6 deployment book arrived I took the decision to rebuild the MDT server from scratch. It hadn't been rebuilt since MDT2013 was installed as an upgrade from 2010 - so it went well. We now have a working system. Tweaked it a bit so it's quicker. GJE
