Hi,

Bit of a problem, I have been using Meraki MDM with the iPads we have in school but a perfect storm has happened where a passcode has been added and the wifi is not on so I cant use Meraki to clear the passcode.

I have booted into recovery mode to wipe it but am getting a 3004 error when I try and restore it.. it doesn't allow me to just restore it, it always asks to update and restore.

Anyone got any advise on how to get into it? Tempted to JB it which I think I had to do to sort a forgotten iCloud issue.

When I did this the other day I had to wipe it completely clean first through iTunes, then set it up as a new device. Have you tried that?

That error code states that iTunes cannot contact the update server. Is it being blocked? Are you trying to restore to a version that is no longer being signed. Only iOS 9.0.2 is being signed by Apple now meaning you cannot restore to anything below that.

What surprised me is that you can remove a passcode by MDM. I know this is too late for this occasion but next time you could try that. It works in Lightspeed and as MDM are only limited by Apples API this should be a feature of most MDM's

It downloads the update and extracts it, then the error pops up with the 3004 error. I might take it home and make sure its not SW that's blocking the update

MDM's have had this feature since day one of IOS!

Some MDM's such as Casper will also let you now remove the activation lock from a Supervised iPad without requiring any Apple ID or bypass code...

But no MDM can clear an iPad's passcode when the iPad isn't connected to the wifi as the OP said, unless (like configurator) you have hard-wired USB control of the iPad.
