If one has a current active OVS agreement which covers Windows OS...is one then allowed to run Windows Virtual Machines on desktops also (using VirtualBox for example...for a coding environment)? If not, how does one go about ensuring compliance?

Thank you for your wisdomousness!

@Arthur - not sure that grid is entirely relevant to OVS-ES. Reason being, we don't buy device or user licenses - we have a blanket license covering all users and devices instead. So, even the 4 instance limit would seem not to be relevant.

Agreed, isn't the salient point that once you licence a product under OVS-ES you are free to install it on as many devices as you want (physical or virtual).

True, although I couldn't find any other section of Microsoft's product terms document that would be relevant.

Hehe - that's not like Microsoft - they're usually so crystal clear about their licensing...:confused2:

If the number of virtual OSEs were truly unlimited under EES that would mean schools could potentially get away with installing Windows 10 Pro on their servers and avoid buying Windows Server Datacenter licences. I don't think that's the case. :)

It there not still a concurrent connections limit? Not to mention, there's no Active Directory in 10 Pro?

Hmm just realised, with OVS-ES the licences are upgrades only right? So you need a qualifying licence which won't apply to a vm.

Therefore you do have to fall back on the SA for the VMs?

(I was thinking of server licensing :/ )

That's a very good point! So in that case, that grid would apply then!
