Windows 10 shows as Vista in WSUS

Hello all,

 

Windows 10 appears to show as Windows Vista in WSUS 3.0 SP2 on 2008 R2 and 2012 R2. Even with the latest KB2720211 fix installed (released years ago), the general consensus online is to either wait for an official fix or modify the database which I'm less keen on!

 

Is there any easy solution to this as yet? Many thanks!

A new hotfix is available that enables Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) on a Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 to sync and distribute feature upgrades for Windows 10. Note that this hotfix is not required to enable WSUS to sync and distribute servicing updates for Windows 10. This hotfix also addresses an issue where Windows 10 computers are displayed as Windows Vista.

Tested and working for all two of our Windows 10 clients, no idea if upgrades work as I haven't turned 10 as a Product yet.

Getting round the Windows Vista issue isn't a problem - installing RSAT on Windows 10, also installs the WSUS MMC (within Admin Tools), with the clients displaying correctly as Windows 10, but also, the Upgrades option is available as you'd expect.

 

Technically the hotfix isn't actually needed - Microsoft have just been a bit lazy when it comes to explaining that the newest features are only available on Windows 10 RSAT or Server 2016.
