mitchell1981 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 A primary school I provide some support for uses Internet Kit for their website. http://www.internetkit.co.uk It a very basic web design and hosting service. It seems to have suddenly stopped working and can't get through on the phone. Anyone else use it and have the same issue? Their entire website seems to have gone down and phone number just asks to leave a message.
mitchell1981 Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Thanks, I've given that a try. Doesn't look like there has ever been much activity on it though. Will see what happens. Looks like quite a few primary schools are affected.
uu2 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I emailed [email protected] on Thursday morning- they replied within 30 minutes: 'Our datacentre and hosting provider has had a major issue which has resulted in a number of websites going offline. Our provider is currently working on restoring the service as their highest priority, but there is a chance that this could take the rest of the day. We will contact you as soon as the service is back up and running or as we receive further updates from the technicians. We apologise again for the inconvenience that this is no doubt causing.' They haven't contacted me since Thursday and several websites are still down. 1
mitchell1981 Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 Thanks, I have now sent an email too. From searching google it appears that all .ik.org sites are still down.
mitchell1981 Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 Reply to my email: Our datacenter had a major issue a couple of days ago which impacted a number of servers which included our main servers as well as the back-up servers. Unfortunately this incident has meant that we are having to replace the hardware and have all the services restored on to the new environment. The servers were replaced on Friday and the technicians are now porting all the data over. Due to the amount of data involved it looks like the sites will start being brought back on line late Monday afternoon. An email was sent out on Friday to all affected schools informing them that we had set up a temporary site that has the latest updates. The site can be found at http://www.InternetKitSupportUpdates.co.uk We apologise sincerely for the inconvenience that this is causing you but rest assured we are putting substantial pressure on our datacentre partner to get our services restored as the highest priority
Edu-IT Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 What issue would affect all of their servers? Sounds a bit bizarre.
Oddbod Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) Cryptolocker or cryptowall are doing the rounds… enough for ISPs to do complete restores of affected machines onto new hardware. (Quicker than attempting to format and restore) Edited October 11, 2015 by Oddbod
