HarryMonkey Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 It looks as though this will be the last weekend of flying for this iconic aircraft. I'm sure we will never see the likes of the Vulcan again. Displays / Tours - Vulcan To The Sky Don’t cry because it’s stopped, smile because it happened.
LincolnE Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I went to see the one at coventry airport last weekend, for the second time this year. Love going up and actually sitting in it (Albeit not in the pilots seat). Might make my way down to Gaydon for the flypast, seems like the last chance to do so.
Andrew_C Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Might make my way down to Gaydon for the flypast, seems like the last chance to do so. Gaydon is ticket only, and sold out.
elsiegee40 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Gaydon is ticket only, and sold out. Find a pub and sit in the garden with a beer. It appears to fly very slowly and is very loud. You don't need to pay
jonnykewell1 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Got to see it fly down at Rhyl in August and it was brilliant
Ant Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 The Vulcan was meant to fly at Goodwood Revival recently, but unfortunately on the way there they had a suspected fuel leak, or so we're told. Was gutted!
Andrew_C Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Just seen this:- The clear message from all of them is that unless supporters choose other ways to see her fly, the Trust will be asked to cancel further flying. Correspondence has been received that also makes it clear that the Trust could also be liable for very substantial costs if safety is deemed to be at risk. “The situation we find ourselves in is a tremendous complement to the passion and energy of XH558’s supporters, many of whom have donated time and money to allow her to fly,” says Trust chief executive Dr. Robert Pleming. “As someone who has devoted a significant portion of his life to this aircraft, I fully understand. But I must ask everyone please, do not come to Robin Hood to see her take-off and land. If you do, and the numbers are vast, the police have stated that they may well have no option but to lock down the airport, the financial consequences of which to the Trust would be terminal.” Referring specifically to Robin Hood airport, but there may be issues at scheduled demos too.
MatthewL Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 If you have not seen it this is worth a . As regards Robin Hood Airport they have ANPR all over and are hot on tickets, the place is small and surrounding roads are not the best. If it does want to fly check the route out and go to one of the nearby villages and find somewhere to park up and watch it come overhead.
nikaso Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 It just shows the relative complexity difference of aircraft that we can still have Spitfires, Hurricanes, Avro Lancasters and B-17s flying around happily but the Vulcan is just too much to keep going.
Iain.Faulkner Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 This is interesting...I've been told that the Vulcan is making an appearance at Woodford (where I believe it was first built) this Saturday :-s
Dos_Box Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 It wouldn't surprise me. It's sort of tradional that the last flying version of an aircraft does a 'tour' of it's most significant 'haunts' before finally comitting itself to the gorund.. As I live quite close to BaE Warton we sometimes get these. In past years we've had the VC10 and Canberra fly over on their farewell flights.
elsiegee40 Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I was listening to radio 4 on Saturday and heard that the Vulcan will be making a flying tour of the country this weekend coming. Last weekend was its last formal air display. 1
sted Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 really is a shame its being retired but I think were all glad it was never used for its intended purpose
elsiegee40 Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 (edited) Farewell tour North on Saturday 10th October. Farewell tour South on Sunday 11th October. Route to be announced tomorrow. Info here: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/news/707/82/Farewell-Tour-10th-11th-October.html A celebratory national tour, XH558’s most ambitious ever, is being planned for Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October. It will bring her flying career to a spectacular close in two sorties to cover the north and south, giving as many people as possible a final opportunity to see the dramatic sight of a Vulcan in the air. In saluting that remarkable period of intense British innovation that XH558 so powerfully embodies, the tour will include fly-pasts of several sites famous for British aviation excellence, as well as other well-known locations chosen to provide good vantage points for supporters. The flight plan and viewing options on the ground are being finalised, so please continue to read our email newsletters, Facebook and Twitter postings. Our email newsletter on Tuesday 6th October will have full route details and times. Edited October 5, 2015 by elsiegee40 2
