IP Office 406 with cordless Phone

Morning Edugeekers.

 

We have an Avaya IP office 406 with 2 expansion modules for extra phones. I was speaking to the person who supplied the system meany moons ago (6-7 years ago). I was after a cordless phone for the yard man. Ordered a BT elements phone as per his suggestion.

 

Turns out i cant get it to work. No dial tone nor able to ring it. Tried it in a landline and it works perfectly.

 

Someone did mention that the cable coming from the phone is using the wrong pairs so the Avaya system cant use it. Anyone know of a converter or any other reason why it doesn't work. Needing it ASAP for Health and Safety reasons!

I'm not familiar with the 406 but we have a cordless analogue phone in our server room, so it can be done. I assume you have plugged this phone directly into the Avaya box? If so does it work and if not have you tried a conventional analogue phone in the same slot?

The phone connects directly to Avaya box. Iv tested the port with a normal phone. Works perfectly. Thats whats confusing me.

Then its very likely to be the cable as you said. I've had a cordless phone and changed that cable with one from another phone and it hasn't worked.

 

I'm not sure if you can buy converters or whether they can actually be converted.

…you'd need a 3641 / 3645 wireless ip model to work with that version of ip office. Failing that, they also talk about setting up an android device for that extension, maybe you could try that?

If you have the analogue extension card (as he does) then an analogue cordless phone should work but the cables vary between manufacturers. Our cordless phone is a BT Graphite and works fine. We also have an analogue fax connected to the IP Office box

Make sure its in an analogue port and you should have no issues, What is the port type set to when you go into system manager?

Well, I tried all the pairs. Doesnt seem to work. Im running out of ideas now. Anyone know what pairs it "Should" be using then i can take a look into the manager.

Did you get the phone working? If not the Avaya pbx likely uses the centre 2 pins on the RJ11 plug (pin 3+4), whereas the BT phone uses the outer 2 pins (pins 2+5).
