Exchange Server 2016 is here and available to download starting today! We’ve spent nearly three years iterating, polishing and refining Exchange since the release of Exchange 2013, and we are excited to put a shiny, new version of Exchange into your hands today. What sets this version of Exchange apart from the past, is that it was forged in the cloud. This release brings the Exchange bits that already power millions of Office 365 mailboxes to your on-premises environment.

Got to say I was terribly disappointed when I finally got to play with a Sharepoint installation to find that feature excised from Office, so I'm actually excited by it. But still, Thirteen.Years.Ago. It better be as good in comparison to the original feature as say the iPad was to the Newton (also a gap of 13 years).

I don't think i will ever see Exchange 2016, we are still (and 5 other sites we manage) on Exchange 2010 and started the transition to Office 365 on the main site, having their mailbox in the cloud. Gave everybody a quota of 1GB for mailbox staff wise originally years ago, and its just not enough and teachers just don't have time to delete emails so always getting asked to increase it which i do, because if i say no they go to SLT who come to me anyway and say please increase it email is important to us. Our mailbox database store is almost 600GB and backups are starting to take forever. Plus add that we have more devices than ever connecting, iPhones, iPads, and then there Mac on top its just makes sense to dump this load in the cloud as we have a decent leased line.

Ditto! Doubt I'll ever see this! With office 365 free for education.. Why would you!?

We've had 2013 for two years, I plan to leave it another two until we upgrade. Same time we do Office, Windows and Lync. Sick of beta testing stuff.

Our Internet connection is a bit naff at the moment (Being upgraded next summer!) So we'll probably end up moving to this for now & then throwing it up in the cloud in the future.

 

After having a sleepless night fixing our exchange server a few months ago, someone else can definitely take responsibility for it!

haha no, I'm not THAT insane. Tho I might setup a server just for our mailboxes.... (IT Staff)

Would be worth having a few set up in a DAG configuration...at the very least it's redundancy, so if one goes down, the next works without issue and replication is nearly instant.

Can you set up a DAG within a VMware'd enviroment? Or... is it possible to have one virtual & one physical server? (Our corruption was related to an issue with VMware, so I'm loathe to trust it with the database again anytime soon!)
