Dos_Box Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) I'm at the end of my tether with my Virgin Tivo box now. It's old, slow (really, really slow) with the menu system sometimes taking seconds to even commit to a single remote command and to top it all my 'medium' account does not even include all of the freeview channels as we found last week when we wanted to record American Psycho and found we had to pay to access that particular free channel!! Anyhow, rant over. All I want is a cheap reliable PVR which aso records HD channels and the 2000T model seems to fit the bill. You can pick up warrantied refurb models for under £130 direct from Humax saving about £50, but before I commit I'd like to know if anyone has one and their thoughts please, or if you know of a better one around that price point please do not hesitate to recommend it Edited September 18, 2015 by Dos_Box
sted Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 not of that particular model but ive had others. my first generation pvr over 10 years old still worked last time i was at the person i gave it tos house. my last one worked with no issues for ages again passed it on dad does seem to kill them though but only after many years 1
timbo343 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Ive got the 9300t which is still going strong. Ive had it for years and wouldnt be with out it. Im looking at wanting to get the freesat version of the humax boxes. To be fair its never let me down and it just works. Wpuld recommend a humax box to anyone. 1
3s-gtech Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 We have a couple of Humax boxes at work. Tough, reliable, lasted several years so far. Foxsat HDR and another single tuner model.
tom_newton Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Used to have a Humax, it was pretty good. Now have an echostar slimline thing (I gave the Humax away when we got sky, now we have Roku + NowTV) - the echostar is a total dog. A friend has a humax freesat box, and he swears by it.
NotSoFast Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Used to have a 9200 and may go back to a pvr now that media center is disappearing (guide cockups and Win 10 removal).
Sanchez Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I've got a 2000T after having a 9200 for years. In general I really like it but I'll share with you the few issues I've had with it. 1) the remote isn't great quality, some buttons eventually stopped working, I ended up replacing mine with an RM Series equivalent which is more responsive ( only downside is you can't turn off the TV with this remote). 2) Humax portal, used for online services, is limited and crashes often. 3) Sometimes, when changing hdmi sources, the Humax box will loose sound until you reboot it. ( only seems to happen when switching from my raspberry pi running openelec)

Dos_Box Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 @Sanchez, Can you put Netflix on here and what other apps are available? I've seen somewhere that Amazon is also a downloadable app. Can you confirm please?
jinnantonnixx Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Humax every time. I've got an old Foxsat (about 5 years old) still going strong. The menus are clunky, but it runs cool and quiet and is very reliable.
Dos_Box Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Does it have apps though (the big swing feature!). Also, does anyone have a link to their site which lists just what apps they have?
Sanchez Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I've had a look through the humax App Store and there is no Netflix and no Amazon. The store banner ads show more apps than I can see, so I think my view is limited to compatible apps for 2000T (2000T is in a drop down box but I can't select another option as it only shows devices registered with your account.) https://www.myhumax.net My Humax is the App Store have a look on there. Just logged out of my account and I can view the full store, still no Netflix or Amazon. (And very little else!)

Yeah, I had a god look around this weekend and couldn't find any apps I needed for the Humax so I think I'll splash out on something a bit better that does have them. For the price range involved this could be a good bet and free up a plug socket as well! Panasonic DMRPWT530EB9 Black | Smart 3D Blu-ray Player 500GB HDD Freeview+ HD | Richer Sounds
