DVD region problem

hi, i got an acer pc in one of the classes, the teacher is trying to play a dvd, but when it comes up it says the region is wrong.

 

It is set to 1 and asks you to change it to 2, but when i try doing this in the drives properties i get a message saying make sure you have a region 2 dvd in the drive and you have sfficient privilages to change it ive tried this logged on as domain administrator and local, with still the same message.

 

The teacher says that it has worked before.

 

any ideas on how to fix this?

You can only change the drive region 3 (or 5 depending on the make) times. After which it's locked out.

right click the dvd drive in question and select properties -> Select the dvd drive that needs region changing -> click properties button -> select region tab -> now select the country you are in 'Unite Kingdom' click ok and then ok again to confirm.

that will put the drive back to the correct region for you

ive tried that, that where it comes up with that error message about privilages.

Sorry i didnt scan read your post very well. try removing the device in the device manager shut down machine, disconect deive start the machine again, shut down again, reconect drive and then the machien will auto detect drive. now try setting the region.

http://www.doom9.org has a variety of software that will help you out. DVDDecrypter is probably what you're looking for (if you have a DVD writer around), and DVDShrink if you only have a CD writer.

It will be a permissions problem, I can see you have logged on as an admin but they are fussy things these DVD drives, try logging on as an administrator, ensuring that in the DVD Region tab it is set to region 2 and then open a region 2 dvd in your dvd playing software and check what it says then as the software is also coded to a specific region.
