That was a hell of a match by the Japanese, the last ten minutes were utterly enthralling. It's quite depressing that I was left wishing the English played more like that - with discipline, courage and heart. Absolutely incredible stuff when that last try went over.

 

I almost though the Pumas were about to do the same to the All Blacks as well. Loving this World Cup already, some real unexpected competition. The Tier 2 and 3 nations aren't just rolling over and showing their tummies any more.

 

Anyone else checking their ancestry to see if they've any Welsh heritage and might get called up? Half of Wales is out with rugby injuries at the moment, it seems.

Boks v Japan best game so far - easy one to choose there.

England looked nervy, which was understandable, but have to take several huge steps forward to even get out of the group.

Ireland have every aspect of the game it seems to me, but their forwards need to step up a little.

Wales good in parts, but progress may depend on injuries.

NZ not at their best, but dominated the second half - they swarm all over teams for 80 minutes and always look as if they have 1 or 2 more players on the pitch.

Watched the NZ game last night, on the edge of my seat at times (only a few) to see them struggle for periods.

I'm off to see Canada v Romania in Leicester (because it was close & cheap) and England v Uruguay in Manchester.

 

We're going to see Argentina v Tonga in Leicester and England v Uruguay in Manchester!

 

Peyper (ref for England v Fiji) is refereeing the game in Leicester so I hope he doesn't ruin that one.

On Saturday my OH asked if I wanted any of the rugby recording as we were off out. "No, can't see them being very good games as the outcome is inevitable". Cue Tonga v Georgia and SA v Japan...

Comfortable win for Scotland. Good start for all the home nations:)

I thought Scotland played well; it wasn't just a case of Japan being tired, the Scots were genuinely stringing together some good play. It's heartening to see after so long, they've always had good players, they've always just struggled with playing as a team.

 

No bonus point for Australia either, what a shame

I watched the France game yesterday and they really didn't turn up for the start of the match. Things improved as the match went on.

 

The bonus point for 4 tries seems to be having an effect as, once a lead is established, teams are choosing attempt tries rather than settle for the easy 3 points.

The Romanians had a good run at it, the scoreline was a little unfair in the end. It took them losing a man before the French could win. The smaller nations are as close as they've ever been this time out, just by doing simple things will.

 

When the French get the wind in their sails, though, they look dangerous. Could be a contender.

What has surprised me in all the games that i have watched is why teams arent choosing to pick and go when they get a penalty 5 or so metres from the try line... alot of teams are choosing 3 points over a possible seven!

 

I have been pleasantly surprised by the teams that people would call "underdogs" such as Romania, Japan etc. Their rate of play is fantastic and this was proven yesterday against Scotland. They made 180 tackles against Japan which is crazy!

rather disappointed that Japan lost against Scotland (and I like Scotland). Underdog syndrome I suppose.

 

There was a nice programme on last night charting the development of the Rugby World Cup. What struck was the change of stadiums, pitches and player kit.
