Just wanted to know if anyone had a solution which could fit my needs (cheaper the better)

I have been asked by SLT to remove our paper sign in sheets for staff (they never use it) and also the visitor one. The idea is that on the main reception we have a touch screen (probably will be an ipad knowing SLT here.) Basically what it needs to do is have a sign in screen at the start so if you are staff you select staff then it goes to the departments page and they sign in like that and then on the home screen also a visitors sign in. They want to be able to add first name, last name, who they are visiting and car reg if possible. There is talk about automatically printing off an id badge but SLT want the system in place and then build on that later.

Another thing they want is the ability to log in and see who is here in the office. Basically so they know who is here and who is not without having to go to the screen. It will need some sort of fire evacuation print out or other method as they want the system but are cautious about what happens in the event of a fire. Now they have not really given me any money for a system but if someone can point me In the direction of some solutions I will have a look.

You could knock something up in Google forms which would do it. Fairly straightforward, free (apart from your time :D ) and does the job. Not the slickest and you'd want to consider what data is being stored on Google's servers...
