burnsyb0y Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Good morning geeks and geekettes Over the holidays out NA has migrated our servers to newer models before leaving for another job opportunity, I am an IT tech now having to handle the whole schools system and I am struggling with the network side of everything. One issue we are having is that some users are unable to save anything to they're documents of the replicated documents drive. The drive is shared and they all have permission to read and write but still some users have not reported issues and others cannot save. Any ideas anyone? Thanks
3s-gtech Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 (edited) Is this their home area or a "Documents" shared area? Is it replicated via DFS-R? Check Group membership of the affected users Check this against the Group permissions for the Shared properties (on each member of the replication group, as these don't replicate!) and on the folder properties Check that permissions are inherited on sub-folders of each user area Check that the home paths parameter is correct for the affected users in AD Edited September 7, 2015 by 3s-gtech
burnsyb0y Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 It is a drive replicated from the local documents folder. Will go and have a look at them now, thanks.
hallb15 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I agree with @3s-gtech it sounds like permissions, as some people can and some can't access the drive.
Grey-gear Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I'll would have to agree with @3s-gtech and @hallb15. Some user can and some can't it may be worth check there AD accounts and seeing the differences. (that's what I would do)
burnsyb0y Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 Checked the permissions and it all looks fine, Will go through AD once i have finished a job off and update you, thanks for the help so far.
burnsyb0y Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 AD groups looks good also. Sorry but i am pretty clueless with the networking side of things as the schools hardware tech up to a week ago.
3s-gtech Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Have you checked those users' AD home paths? If they still point to the old server you'll have issues.
rrrrr Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 If some users can and some users cannot, can you identify what they have in common? Same year group etc? Another couple of things to check are there quotas and file screens
burnsyb0y Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Think I am going to have to get external support in. In no way am i trained to be forced to do this aswell as hardware tech. Thanks for the help though, its much apreciated.
