We are currently using a very old installation of BookIT to manage room bookings. In the past I've used MRBS and looked at @webman's ClassroomBookings solution when he first wrote it, but when I arrived at my current school everyone was happy with BookIT so I let it be. I've now discovered that the application was set up to work by putting everyone in the Domain Admins group (!) and without that level of permissions it's no longer working.

So, two questions:

  • Firstly, is anyone else using BookIT and can advise on how users should be set up in AD?
  • Secondly, I'd love to have recommendations on what people are using, particularly if it allows single sign on, can be used for lettings as well as lessons, integrates with Progresso (through the API, ideally) and is cheap!

Thanks,

Simon

We use MIDAS in our school (although we use it primarily for external lettings, as we use SIMS for lesson timetabling) and have been really happy with it and their support has been very efficient too! Their self-hosted option allows single sign on through ldap authentication, and there is an API available to (although I haven't personally used the API, as it seems to be available as an optional addon rather than included as standard)

Thanks for all the replies. In the end, I got through to the original developer, Richard, who was very generous with his time (especially considering how old the software is) and sorted it out remotely. Big thumbs up.

Room Booking System - Online Room Booking Software is excellent. Used it for years, excellent support and ldap authenication

Thanks for the recommendation! FYI we now also support ADFS for an even smoother SSO experience :)

Glad you got everything sorted! Give us a nod if you'd like to check out how our system works.

Any answer on one with an API link for Progresso? We're currently ad-hoc timetabling on staff's behalf which is obviously less than ideal!

Our Room Booking System integrates with Progresso to sync the complete timetable, cover changes, suspended classes, etc.
