PXE Boot Error / Injecting Drivers

Hello,

 

We've had a new batch of Lenovo laptops this year with a different network card to previous models.

 

If I try and PXE boot the laptop, using the current WIM file, it errors with an error message saying no driver present.

 

I have tracked down the right driver and I have imported this into MDT (I know it's the right one as I can PXE Boot fine if I specify the drivers on an attached USB stick), and I have Updated the deployment share, with and without rebuilding boot images.

 

The problem I’m having is that even after updating the share, the existing WIM still complains about the driver (I’m assuming this is expected behaviour.)

 

But when I try and PXE off of the new LiteTouch WIM file, which I have imported into WDS, Windows starts to load and then instantly crashes (BSOD) with an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error message.

 

Has anybody come across this before? I’m still fairly new to MDT as this is the first year we've made changes to it since it was installed last summer as part of BSF.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

I've not had this trouble but I have heard of it happening. Instead of going to the lenovo website for the drivers go directly to the manufacturer of the motherboard and get the drivers from there. Drivers are a funny thing even though they are downloaded from the lenovo website they can still have issues. if the drivers that was downloaded is an exe, use Winzip and extract it and then add the drivers to MDT again. Also, have you updated the WDS boot image ? I usually delete the old one and re-add it again just to make sure it's the new one.

I've seen that with some lenovo all in ones we had. Iirc we used a separate boot image with only the drivers for them and a separate task sequence in sccm to force the different boot image

@markwilfan Snap! In the end after a bit of playing around, it would appear that they don't like one of the NIC or storage drivers included in our default WIM file, so I've had to create a second x64 WIM with JUST the Lenovo NIC drivers to get them to PXE, and then let them get the drivers from MDT as normal. I've now got one PCI device missing a driver but other than that it looks like they will work.

Use "Wmic computersystem get model" to get the exact lenovo model, and do a search on lenovo support site with that model number, so you know that is the right driver.

 

I have been having issues in the past cause i was using the "wrong" drives.
