Sheridan Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I'm confused now, I've got Enterprise showing on VLSC but no keys (apparently I have to ring, which defeats the point of the VLSC surely!?) and I only have MAK keys for Education. So yet again Microsoft have mangled the licensing to be as convoluted as possible. I bought into the EES agreement to avoid this sort of carry on. I used to have Windows 7 Enterprise KMS, now I only have Education MAK (and not enough of them either!) I guess I'll have ring MS then, but I think I'll have a holiday first....

Yeah I had hoped to deploy a new small suite with Windows 10 later on this summer, but I'll wait until MS sort out their licensing merry go round.

dblight Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 You can for Windows 8 Enterprise Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / Logon Show first sign-in animation. Modify and set to Disabled. I've not tested it on 10 but can't see why it wouldn't work.

ass17 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 StartLayout doesn't work!!!!! I had created a blank start menu with no tiles and dragged in the right hand side to make it look like the old start menu. I then exported the start menu layout, applied it to a GPO, and when a user logs in, they still have tiles under headings life at a glance and play and explore... All I want is a start menu with no tiles!!!!!!! Any help?
originofsymmetry Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 The group policy for that mentions Start Screen rather than Start menu. I have a sinking suspicion that it won't affect the Start Menu. I made edits and tried the same and looked in the XML file output and it had references to all the default tiles like Money. :/
denzal2k4 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I had issues with the start menu eventually got it working with: export-startlayout -path C:\start\layoutmodification.xml, then in group policy under user > Policies >admin templates > Start menu and taskbar > Start layout in there I entered C:\start\layoutmodification.xml and it works, make sure its linked to a user OU rather than machine, and make sure the file is in the right place, wether you put it there and then replicate the machine or deploy the file seperately. Using Windows 10 Education and Server 2012.

I have the MAK keys now for all versions of 10, however it's only showing only 250 activations. There are still no KMS keys. I E-Mailed our supplier and they replied: "MS are in the process of rejigging customer’s accounts with the new Win10 OS keys – they are likely to see some changes. mgoff Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 They moved the location for ours. When you are in VLSC, click License, then Relationship Summary. Now click the License ID of your current Active license. Once the page changes, click Product Keys. Scroll down the list and look for "Windows Srv 2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS for Windows 10". Use this key.
