Went to see this last night. It was, how can I say it....not bad.

But not good either. As a popcorn movie it was a fine way to spend a couple of hours but as a well constructed film it just didn't really cut it.

It was marred by a lack of character development, the sudden introduction of random characters well into the movie and Will Smith seemingly having written into his contact that he grabs most of the dialog time.

I wanted more lines from Margot Robbies Harley!

The editing and directing also left a lot to be desired, with random flashback scenes suddenly being cut in much like ad breaks in US tv shows and sudden jumps in the timeline of events during the film leaving you a bit baffled as to what has happended and why.

There are some plus points however such as Jared Leto's Joker who is a cross between Heath Ledgers interpretation and Marilyn Manson and I would love to see him in his own film, but I think this is the 'darkest' I would like to see the Joker as a character as any 'funny' is now barely detectable over the mad and sinister.

Harley Quinn was also great, but as I have already said, she had far to few lines and would be served better in her own film.

The rest of the squad were just seemingly along for the ride.

DC Have tried to copy the Avengers theme (from the other side) but missed on just what makes it all work so well with those.

By all means go and see it but don't expect it to be a polished package.

Oh, and why do DC make all of their films in dull, dark environs!!! Very annoying.

I went to see it last night too in 4DX. It was an ok film but you couldn't compare it to Avengers. Who decided to cast Cara Delevingne as the villain? Her acting just wasn't upto playing the main villain. She looked good/spooky in the witch makeup but once she starting talking as the character it just went downhill.

I really enjoyed the film. Leto and Robbie were amazing. Please give me a Joker film and a Harley film, or a combined one at least!

I want to see the Joker / Batman pre BvS and i want to see Harley / Joker post SS.

There was a distinct lack of character development for Killer Croc, Slipknot, Captain Boomerang and Katana. They could of done a little more with Enchantress and Cara was a little out of her depth.

Also the main bad guy was a complete surprise to me and I felt a nice twist.

Waller was cast really well.

 

I think one of the reasons that DC always gets slammed by critics is they focus on the word 'comic' in comic book movies. DC comics are not generally as fun and light-hearted as Marvel.

I'd actually like to see the cut of the film before they did the reshoots after BvS got slammed!

Also please let them release ALL the unused Joker footage on the DVD!

Yeah, i saw that. I'm hoping after the great reception Margo and Jered got for their performances, even when the film overall has been slated, it will be enough to get it made.

And was it just me, or did Afflecks Batman look a little, well, 'chunky'?

Saw it last night - cinema was pretty full.

 

Generally OK, and at least it felt different to the average super-powered comic book film (it felt like The Dirty Dozen do Escape From New York). I now suspect that the post-production problems were as bad as made out, and that the original cut was much grimmer. What is it with DC and everything having to be shot in near darkness? Even the footage of Wonder Woman looks grey.

 

Thought Cara DV was more miscast rather than bad. It looked like Flagg had a schoolgirl lover when she was June Moon, and she looked like Hermione gone bad as Enchantress. Did someone tell her to do that weird shimmy? Loved the design on her brother - much better than Apocalypse in X-Men. Generally liked all the squad and wanted them to make it through (though it was obvious the role Slipknot would be playing). Amanda Waller, on the other hand, after "that" scene was the one character that I really hoped would die.

 

Not without its merits, and tries hard - but never reaches its potential.

Negative critical reception or not, it has done well at the box office and it's only been out a week. Good for them, I enjoyed it and I hope they can expand on some of the characters and themes.

Saw it last night and quite enjoyed it, I did feel that some of the characters were simply along for the ride so to speak. Despite what the critics say I quite enjoyed Jared Leto's "dark" Joker, although I was never into comics so had no preconceptions of what the Joker should be (other than the 90's Batman films).
