How many of you help out/organise extra curricular activities in the school which you work?

 

My boss and I run Longbow Archery courses during the Spring Term, and my boss runs the archery lessons at school camp

I run a very exclusive club for me, my sofa and my fridge

 

I'm happy to help out but don't organise anything myself.

I teach the basics of golf to our 6th form...

I run an after-school ICT club on Tuesday afternoons for our junior school. This term, hoping to get them doing some games programming using the article that featured in this month's PC Pro.

Don't spose you have a pdf of that section or something similiar as would like to get my hands on that , if thats ok ?

Just looking at the issue of PC Pro in question. I can't find any reference pointing to an electronic copy of the article, but the article uses the Greenfoot project produced by the University Of Kent (see http://www.greenfoot.org), a site that has excellent documentation.

I go on our yr 7 residential which is a week of drama, art and outdoor pursuits. Yr 8 outdoor pursuits weekend, yr 9 outdoor pursuits weekend,

 

Currently directing a drama production for KS3 for performance in Jan (yikes that's come around quickly!)

 

Also organise our whole school activity day in summer - 900 kids 30 trips - deep joy! (mind you I do get paid a bursuary for that which usually pays for the summer holiday!)

 

In the past have run animation projects and other IT stuff and involved in various fashion shows, PTA events and school productions.

 

Do a bit of ICT sometimes as well

I do a paid after school computer club as part of the extended schools program. We 'renovate' old PC's, build them and install various operating systems, games, programs etc. I teach some network fundamentals, ip addressing, proxy's, anti virus and general system maintenance and stuff the IT teachers don't know about (clustering,virtualisation). This year has been particularly interesting as the kids have all brought in copies of various live linux CD's - ubuntu, puppy and SuSE being the most popular. Normally I recommend linux use anyway, but these kids were way ahead. (although a recent eeepc demonstration went quite well).

we run a gamers club one day a week.... the idea was to try and let the kids play games at a suitable time instead of during lessons,worked for a while but then you get the idiots who spoil it for everyone. plus get free lunch one day a week. :-)

I go on our Y5/Y6 residential weekends

I head a section of the school Combined Cadet Force, along with the PA to the Rector. I also take recreational basketball and on occasion, with kids who are keen and interested, show them how to build computers. - Great fun! I think doing extra-curric adds an extra dimension to your work.
