Arreks Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I'd imagine SSL will be implemented once they release the 'new site' which could be anything from 1 month to 10 years away in all seriousness, it's a big endeavor to create a whole new Forum just the way you want it - it's even more work to work with the database to transfer from one piece of Forum software to another.

True, I'm only making assumptions - I'm assuming that there's no SSL certificate yet and they aren't planning on purchasing one until the new site is up. Generally it's quite easy to get SSL to handle the logins though I've only used MyBB personally.. Maybe an admin will clarify things.

It must be a massive job to transfer a active forum betweem two completely different pieces of software. Sounds like a interesting job...

From what i've gleaned from my cheats with them however it's going to be well worth the wait!

Yeah SSL login will be implemented with the next site (v5 as we look at it) and we did have SSL login before with v3 but basically it didnt offer proper security as cookies would still be leaked even though the submission of the password was encrypted, having it implemented but not secure is worse then not having it at all imo. If you dont see SSL no one will presume its 100% secure but if you have a half baked implementation people would put faith in it when it really didnt lock things down enough which is why it was not attempted in v4. vBulletin had also mentioned they would do ssl login properly in the future but well vBulletin has lost the plot and imploded. v5 is waiting on an import tool (its in beta right now) and also Tapatalk is pretty broken which would mean no mobile app. 1

I think it's interesting to see things from a admin side. I wish more forums would be more transparent like this. Edugeek seems to be the only one (what I've been apart of) to give more a technical reason to why something hasn't happened yet, still in the works or we did have something and it broke.
