witch Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The ICT co-ordinator has asked me if there is anything free or cheap that will allow him to show the whole class a students work. He had Impero in his old job but we don't have anything like that here. Ours is a Windows environment with a Smart board. Any advice?
free780 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 ABTutor will do it. Cheaper than impero. Other than that running vnc server. Then set the viewer to view only by the shortcut. 1
DavetheITguy Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 you can use Italc, it's free and it's just like abtutor. It's easy to install and use, I used to use it when I worked for a smaller academy. Hope this helps. iTALC 2
mikeprice Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Yup - iTalc will do this fine - and for free Not as good as ABTutor - but works fine once you get the keys sorted out 1
witch Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 Not as good as ABTutor - but works fine once you get the keys sorted out ...and what exactly do you mean by this, @mikeprice ??
mikeprice Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 it uses a couple of keys (ie codes in a file- not bits of metal that open doors!) on the master and client computers I only mention it because I have recently been messing about wit it and I have messed up the keys which has proved to be a pain to sort out
witch Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 So...it should work OK in the first instance then?
mikeprice Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I suppose so - but it was already set up and working when I started here - if I hadn't tried to 'improve' it it would have been OK Other people I have talked to say it works fine if you install it properly BTW - the reason I was trying to mess with it was because it could only have about 9 thumbnails of kids computers on the screen at once - whereas I was used to ABTutor that can have the whole class and I was trying to re-install it with a new version to see if I could change it 1
witch Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 Always better with a paid solution with support Really? You think? No money makes that a non-runner or I would be looking at a paid solution
mjk Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Have you tried Google Hangouts? As long as both have the chrome browser running the students can enter a hangout with the teachers machine and then do a screenshare. It's a free solution with support. 1
witch Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 I have tried to install italc with no success. The keys won't work no matter what I do. I have saved the key in an accessible location but the client computer cannot see it. Any advice?
mikeprice Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I am going to try to re-install it in out computer room sometime soon - If I find out anything I will let you know 1
paulellam Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I have tried to install italc with no success. The keys won't work no matter what I do. witch Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Maybe - will try with a usb stick on Wed when I am back in that school
kennysarmy Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 We use ABTutor here....licenced by number of teacher PC's not students PC's....
paulellam Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I saved the key on all the stations in a folder within the italc folders.
