Spiceworks Network monitor. Looking good.

Just had a email about the release of Network monitor.

Its been in BETA for a long time, remember looking a while back but i thought it was a forgotten project.

 

Just giving it a try and first impressions are good.

 

Added a switch in and tells me how many devices are on 10mb/100mb/1gb, so will be working out why some devices are only on 10mb later.

 

Server details look really nice too, gives all the normal info, shows all the services ad the memory and cpu allocation.

 

Could be a replacement to FAN. It picks things up so quickly.

 

 

Just waiting to see if it can pick up our Unifi points. Need to turn on SNMP but dont want all the wireless points to restart.

Did they sort out the CPU issue from the beta? Start adding in many items (even 30 switches) and it basically grinded to a halt and breaks constantly.

I was using the beta release a little while ago... then it borked and lost everything I added.

Not sure sorry, dont have that many items.

Might enable SNMP on a few workstation to try it out.

 

It seems to refresh every few seconds so could have been just overload itself with SNMP requests. I did wonder how it would cope with a large number of devices seeing how quickly it refreshes.

 

As far as i can tell its free like the spiceworks inverntry app. One page does say try for a month but cant see any pricing info anywhere.

I've been using it for about 4 months, 10 virtual servers and 10+ switches - runs fine, if anything I'd like more detailed information from switches etc but I'm not complaining.

Ive been using it since early Beta but recently its been reporting that four of 10 servers are consistently offline, even though they are not!

Only downside ive seen is the graphs on the dashboard have no labels so the network I/O could be half way up the graph but this could mean that your transferring 1mb per second or 1gbps.
