Arthur Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 (edited) Installing the hotfix from KB3014783 might be worth a try. Edited June 20, 2015 by Arthur
DCUK6 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Not sure if it applies to Win 7 but our Server 2008 R2 machine had this when the registry hive was huge. So big that the RAM was eaten up and it failed the login. Have you got any large files in C:\Windows\System32\config ?
leachim Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 Well what I did was create another user and copied all the data from the old to new minus the ntuser files BUT I did note the profile size for that user was 630 GBs !!! So maybe you were right - how could you fix that ?
GRitchie Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Yeah, we've had this - tried most fixes, all unsuccessful. In the past, creating a new profile fixed it. If not, I've had to delete and re-create the user account (then point them to their old home folder)
JATSO Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Get this a few times a week in all my 4 schools. Just delete the profile check the registry for .bak files and make sure the user can log without getting a temp profile. This always sorts it for me but would like a permanent fix. Microsoft probably just ignored it as a permanent glitch in Windows 7 and certainly wouldn't fix it now.
Oaktech Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I've fixed this in a variety of ways... Preventative maintenance - running profile cleanup as a scheduled task reactive maintenance - installing that hotfix and running profile cleanup manually and scanning reg as mentioned above flattening the machine and starting again is often quicker and easier!
