My school are looking into a new interactive projection solution, we have very old Smartboards and we want to move to 80" televisions, preferably ones that will work with Smartboard software. However I am very clueless into what is out there with regards to education, support, pricing and being able to demonstrate to teachers before purchase. Anyone got any recommendations? (We are NOT looking for a middle man supplier, we want to go direct.) Cheers!

Steve21 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 If you want to use SMART Notebook with a third-party, touch- or pen-enabled device, you must first activate the software by purchasing a Competitive Product Software Licence. Without this licence, SMART tools do not work when the computer is not connected to a SMART product. When you order a Competitive Product Software Licence, you receive a product key that activates SMART Notebook. I think it's more a "it won't work" Steve

One of my friends was seriously impressed by the VII Networks offerings at BETT this year. VII Networks - Audio Visual This is what we've just purchased. Their proprietary software (which you get one license for with the board) can read but not create .notebook files. It will, on the other hand, convert to .iwb files which are apparently more universal. The board has Android built in, as well as the standard HDMI/VGA connections. The teachers were concerningly excited when I started playing angry birds and watched Top Gear on it... I recently went to an alphatouch demo and was v. impressed with the motorised mounts they had- relatively reasonably priced too. I picked up a sales brochure so can let you know rough prices if you want. I can give you the number of the chap that did our demo- he's more than willing to come and demo if you want (if he isn't sunning himself in Dubai on 'business'!) 1

Oaktech Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 They pretty much all have 4mm safety glass I was more concerned about the OP's use of the word 'television'. Somebody I know, I won't call him a friend because I think he's an idiot, replaced 4 projector and screen combos, against my advice, with some unbranded touchscreens from a manufacturer direct market place (might have been alibaba, might have been banggood) last summer. While they work(ed) OK, and the software that comes with them is acceptable, the touch surface is clearly plastic and this far into the term 3 of them are wrecked. 1 student went beast mode and stabbed through the touch layer to the LCD with a pair of scissors, another is scratched to hell and the third is ruined because one of the cleaners used a chemical on it and the plastic reacted and clouded up. The manufacturer is refusing to honour any sort of warranty because apparently they are designed for home use only. I just desperately didn't want the OP to find himself in a similar position through just buying touch screen TVs.

They were missing weren't they @Galway? This particular person, is a network manager in a multi academy trust in the west country, he has way more pieces of paper than I do, and earns way more money than I do and ignores way more advice than I do. He should know much better... But, budgets.

You see a product and you think that looks small and so you go for the next size up only to find that the next size up, which looked ok in the shop is actually to big and wont fit through the front door let alone where it needs to go in the house. Being so big these screens need several people to move them and this can make it hard to get them round corners etc as they are even bigger in the box 2) Weight Can your wall take it, what is your wall made of. at VeryPC we recommend the Vividtouch screens and for the 85inch it weights 115kg. Depending on you walls this may need a frame for it to be mounted on. Being so heavy these will need at least 3 people to help move them maybe more. Most manufactures will tend to only deal with a (middle man) and not got to the end user. It was a conference suite in a hotel near me. I hope the bedrooms haven't got the same carpet design as the conference rooms... I'd get seasick just looking at it

Our price also includes Smart Notebook. The easiest way to get a price from Very is to call one of our lovely (that maybe a bit far) but definitely amazing sales team.

You do, but the price difference between for Smart products and for other products is, er, frightening. Or at least the quote I got to include our three Promethean boards had it that way.

But I took the version of Smart Notebook that can be sold with non Smart products to be a stop gap for the three years and then the over priced non-Smart Advantage licencing kicked in. If I'm wrong then, well, bonus - the choice of boards has just widened significantly!
