Can anybody who is running Google Apps for education tell me how easy is it sharing documents? We run Office 365 on our iPads with the students but the one thing we find difficult is sharing of documents with the teacher. We did originally look at One Notes class note feature which looked good, and we even made a start with it but Microsoft screwed things up there and left staff annoyed so don't think we will be going down that route again. Thinking of maybe pushing for Google Apps but really want to see opinions on people who use Google Apps already in the classroom before i start playing and deploying the Active Directory sync tool for it.

If going down the Google Apps route I strongly recommend Hapara Teacher Dashboard. It costs (here $5 per student) but worth every cent - makes sharing/distributing/checking work seamless for both students and teachers. Your most IT-illiterate teacher will be able to use it to have access to student work done in their subject.

It sounds dramatic but Teacher Dashboard revolutionised our use of GAFE.

Classroom does something similar (but I don't think as well) for free. I wouldn't try to use GAFE (sharing between teachers and students for work) without one of those two tools.

I've currently got our RS teacher using Classroom, well about to; she's created her own class, invited the pupils and has submitted an assignment with resources ready for them next week. From the sound of things the kids are looking forward to it as well...

How do i add invite students? What am i missing? Thats the screen i get, and it don't match what Google Help says. I don't have a 'Directory' to click and i don't have any students listed. All user accounts are showing in the Google Apps admin.

At the top, click Students.

Click Invite.

Check the box next to the students you want to invite or check the Select all box to invite all the students listed.

To see other contact lists, click My contacts.

To see all the students in your school's domain, click Directory. You can also search for a student by name in the search box.

Have you enabled sharing of contacts via your admin console?

That made 'Directory' appear, but that has an empty list now.

My classroom looks different from yours. Do you not have an option to invite by code?

When I click on "students" I get the Invite option but under directory I get my list of all users.

If you have just enabled contact sharing it may take a while to populate the directory.

We don't tend to use the directory to manually add students. We give the students the invite code and they join themselves. Once all students are joined you can disable the code.
