sjh Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 With the National curriculum 2014 for Computing Key Stage 1 & 2 in mind.... What should a primary school have for their IT infrastructure? Do we keep our IT suite or is this a thing of the past? Are schools replacing computer suites with laptop trolleys instead? What should the split of laptops vs. tablets be? Look forward to hearing what you guys have and your thoughts.
bladedanny Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Two of my schools don't have an it suite. Both have several laptop trolleys around school. My third school has an it suite for ks2 and laptops in ks1 (separate buildings) They also have a trolley of 16 iPads that both ks1 and ks2 can use.

TechSupp Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 The success of the delivery of the NC is not what technology you have but what skill/knowledge/confidence the staff have to deliver it. My suggestion would be keep the suite, always useful. We are a primary and in KS1 we have a small set of tablets and each class has 4 PC's and in KS2 they have the main suite (32), 20 netbooks and small set of tablets. Both KS1 and KS2 also have session in the main suite each week. I know a school that is mainly ipad and they say they deliver the NC with no problems. Quite alot of the NC can be taught in the classroom without a PC surprisingly enough but again this comes down to teacher skill/knowledge/confidence.
kidpressingbuttons Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 We have one IT suite of 33 dell AIOs as well as 3 trollies of 30 laptops and 80 student iPads. My coordinator has also purchased 5 raspi's for use in classes for programming. Teacher confidence is the biggest issue that I think all schools will face!
witch Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 We are a junior rather than a primary - we have one IT suite with 23in monitors. 70 Lenovo Yoga laptop/tablets and 32 old netbooks now off the domain used for internet research ICT teacher has several Arduino and RaspPi bits and pieces
jtoland Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 We have 200 chromebooks for every student from y2 to y6 then some surfaces for y1 and we have an it suite of 10 comps with software on for small groups
