Inserting a online video in Office 2013

We are just in the process of rolling out Office 2013 and have hit a problem with inserting a online video from youtube into a office 2013 app. It appears to be related to one of the GPO settings, but I can't work out which one.

 

For example, in Powerpoint I can

select the 'Insert Video option',

search for on subject in the youtube option,

Select the video I want (you can even preview it), BUT

when you click 'insert' it just goes back to the slide without inserting the video.

 

Can anyone think of a GPO setting that might be preventing the video from being added to the powerpoint?

We couldn't get insertion of Youtube video to work, it's still too buggy. However, you can insert the video as a SWF object using the hidden Developer tab.

 

 

Developer tab

 

Click the File tab.

Click Options.

Click Customize Ribbon.

Under Customize the Ribbon and underMain Tabs, select the Developer check box.

 

Then, under Developer, click on the More Options button (screwdriver and spanner icon)

Select Shockwave Flash Object

Draw the object onto the slide by dragging a box

Right-click on it and select Property sheet

Add the URL of the video to the Movie parameter (Remove the “watch?v=” and replace with “/v/” ) e.g.

If you want the video to play automatically when you open the slide, add “&autoplay=1” to the end of the address.

 

Easy!

thanks gs-tech, I found that one on google, but not long term solution for staf

 

I'm fairly sure it must be group policy, I don't get the same problem if I login using my credentials. I'm guessing it's something to do with the shockwave object it inserts.

I think its a IE GPO that is causing the problem just havent worked out what yet.

There are bugs in PowerPoint 2013 relating to embedding and playing videos that we have found and its possible that you have the same issues. We found some fixes that solved our problems -

 

Search for KB2817636 and KB2837627

the video function works when we log in with a user that has no IE settings applied so it not related to a update but more a IE setting but I cant work out which one is causing it.
