RiffRaff Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section. My Veeam backups are going to a 4Tb SAN which is now full. For some reason there are two full backups on there as well as the incrementals. The two full backups are 1.5 Tb each !! Can I just manually delete the older one of the two, or will that cause issues? I am pretty clueless regarding backups and I dont want to just delete it and then find out that there is some kind of keychain linking the incrementals to the full. I have reduced the retention period, but the older full backup wont disappear for another 12 days. I have logged it with Veeam, but I'm still awaiting a response. As friendly as they are, I really struggle to understand the helpdesk (based in St Petersberg) I just want to clear some space on the SAN to allow the next backup to run.

RiffRaff Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 I had a remote session on an unrelated issue with a Veeam rep last week and she changed our backups from reversed to forward. The older of the full backups is sat in the middle of the reversed incrementals.
Davit2005 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) Using Incremental here and we only generally have 2 Full backups of each, this is due to setting Transform I guess and the fact that we do one active full each month. I would give them another ring. How many VM's are you backing up in the one job?? I guess from the size it is not a lot. Veeam should be releasing a Best Practice Guide soon according to the VeeamOn forum yesterday. Although best practice will not fit all scenario's. Edited June 12, 2015 by Davit2005
RiffRaff Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 We are backing up 11 VM's I really need to speak to somebody that I can understand. The two ladies I spoke to were lovely but I struggled to understand them through their Russian accents. Don't they have any UK support? I will try again.
Andrew_Zhelezko Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 If you're running out of space, you can manually delete the oldest backup chain (files from May 14th to May 29th). It won't affect integrity of other chains and you'll be able to restore from other points with no problem.

Andrew_Zhelezko Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Great decision then! Those points are supposed to be still visible in Veeam GUI (or can be already removed as per retention), so don't try to restore from them:)
