Hi All,

Has anyone provided Nominet with a different Registrar TAG that is not a LA? I would like to be able to manage DNS myself e.g. logging into a GoDaddy account as with a co.uk domain etc.

Many Thanks

Matt

We have our .sch.uk domain on Nominet pointing to our own local DNS servers we've set up specifically in our DMZ to host it. If GoDaddy are happy to host the domain then all you need to do is point Nominet at their DNS servers.

Thanks. I've just phoned GoDaddy and they can't do it, according to who I spoke to anyway!

Ah, there might be some confusion here. I went through this when I took hold of our domain. You don't need to transfer the domain to a new registrar. Your school owns the domain and Nominet have it pre-registered to you. All you need to do is update Nominet with the IP addresses of the DNS servers hosting the authoritative records.

We ended up setting our own DNS server up because I lost the will to live trying to explain the distinction to third parties (our LA included).

Do an whois lookup of your domain here :http://www.nominet.org.uk/whois - it should come back with your schools address and listed as the Registrant.

Hi Matt,

As has already been mentioned below, any Nominet member should be able to host a .sch.uk The domain itself is assigned to each school by nominet to begin with and it is the schools, not the Local Authorities, so you can move it to who ever you like. We look after thousands of .sch.uk domains for our schools, many of who then either use our mail services (included) or we then forward on to services such as Microsoft or Google.

If we can be of any help just PM me and I'll get one of our account managers to get in touch and let you know the process.

Moved over one school from SWGfL (RMPLC) to Exa. I logged a changed request with SWGfL with the following details:

Please describe the purpose of the change you would like to make: Transfer of domain name [DomainNameHere] to EXA.

Please detail the technical requirements of the change: Please could you transfer our domain name [DomainNameHere] to EXA (IPS Tag: EXA).

Of course I assume in this case you would replace references of EXA with GODADDY.

I was contacted and asked to provide EXA with a zone file SWGfL provided (i.e. our subdomain details, etc.) and give SWGfL the new Name Server information for the host before they released our Tag.
