Smart Notebook 11.4 on Windows 10

Thanks - it's the older boards I'm more concerned about - Smart say the latest drivers support SB600 boards, but we've still got SB560 boards in quite a few rooms.

For Smart 500 or 600 series boards, you need Smart Notebook 11.4 and the version 12 drivers. Computers connected to 500 series boards will still display an exclamation mark, but it still works 100%. If you look closer, the warning is regarding support for the 500 series, but it's safe to ignore.

I downloaded it today - it did ask for a product key, but it was implied you could download as a "trial " and activate later. The old product key worked even though there were spaces for more characters.

But 11.4 doesn't need a license key? You sure you downloaded that version?

Iirc you've always had to activate it using the key that's found on the bottom of the older boards. That's the key I used - I don't have a key for the latter versions.

Yesterday I was installing on just one machine - preparing a new Windows 10 image - but today I'm updating some Windows 8.1 machines, so I looked a bit harder. Long story short, this will more useful to you:

Download in msi format, plus Smart Installer software so that you can customise the package.

I have had to use a product key for 11.4, also using the admin download of the SmartBoard package. I made an MST for it using the Smart tools and it activates.

11.4 usually requires a key. I have however come across some schools where they have a large 438mb setup file, named along the lines of esi2011....exe, and when you install Smart Notebook it shows as activated after it's installed. It really does throw you when a few steps disappear and you think back, did I enter that key? How could I, I haven't found the .txt file yet!?

I'd really like to know if I'm doing something wrong, because I've had absolutely no luck installing Notebook 11.4 on Windows 10 (without the drivers and with the drivers). I've used the MSI installer that I've always used, and I've also downloaded the EXE and tried to install manually. I usually end up with a 1603 MSI error. If MSI logging is turned on and I look through the log there's no real obvious culprit. I've also tried turning off UAC to see if it's an elevation thing, but no luck there either.

 

Those that claim that they've installed 11.4 without any issues (other than updating the drivers), is there any trick? Anything I'm missing?

 

I figured I would post an update to my situation. I posted more detail here, but what ended up resolving the problem with SMART Notebook 11.4 rolling back in the middle of the install was to install KB3105210. After installing this update, SMART Notebook 11.4 installs no longer roll-back at Step 4 of 6.

It is no problem to install it on windows 8.1 so it is maybe something i missing that it need to have??

I have had no issue with installing 11.4 on Windows 10 (tried 3 different PCs). However, the advice to use the 12.2 driver with Ink 2.3.2 is for me a wrong steer. The service does not auto start and the floating toolbar does not appear ("show floating toolbar" doesn't help) - according to Smart the floating toolbar is removed from version 12.3 so I should still be seeing it. The main issue though is with Ink - with that version it crashes Powerpoint 2016 the instant you start a presentation. Kill the Ink process and Powerpoint works. As I am testing things I decided to just go ahead and try the later driver (even though Smart don't state compatibility with 11.4) and having put on the driver 12.5 and Ink 4 (v12.5.768.0 and v4.0.890.0) everything works. I've lost the floating toolbar of course but gained the new toolbar (floating hand that Ink gives you).

We've had Notebook 11.4 working fine with 12.2 drivers on Windows 10 1511 - no issues.

 

Anyone tried Windows 10 1607 with the same setup? Our board is showing a red light and Device Manager isnt happy with the drivers it seems. Reading this link , it seems MS have changed touch (I assume due to Ink) and now our boards are connecting. I have upgraded to drivers 12.5 and still no green light. The article also mentions updated firmware for newer boards.

 

I have SB680 boards and despite being discontinued, it does say that they are still supported

 

The odd thing is that I know it was working before the 1607 release in the Insider Builds (11.4 and drivers 12.2). I've been playing with Ink for a while now so it seems to have suddenly changed.

 

 

Anyone else tried 1607 with some older kit?

Okay, so on further inspection, things have been resolved. There was actually a USB cable issue which threw my test out and caused the concern!

 

Tried another machine with another board and drivers 12.5 did work. Went back to the original board and I had to change cable before I could get it connecting and for the red light to turn to green. I can only assume the USB has been an issue for some time and no one had told us.

 

So all good again here.

Had a similar issue when testing win 10.

Found that it does not like longer usb cables on the lenova laptops I tried. The toshiba ones were fine with longer usb cables. Not tried the new version of 10.

Hi folks, I've not read the last few posts so please forgive me while I ignorantly weigh in.

1) Download/install the SMART 12 Drivers/ink from https://support.smarttech.com/en/downloads/product-drivers/12_10-and-ink-5_3

 

2) Looking in Device Manager showed that it still hadn't installed the correct driver. So Update Driver and point it to C:\Program Files (x86)\SMART Technologies\SMART Product Drivers\Drivers\x64 (or 32 depending on your machine)

 

3) Mine found the driver just fine and I was able to install the old 11.4 version of Notebook without any issues

We installed 11.4 on windows 10 1803 education yesterday and everything worked first time with now issues. Pen tray, floating toolbar, Ink, notebook. all work OK.

Resurrecting this old thread as we have Smart Interactive Projectors and have previously used 11.4. Haven't deployed 11.4 or any Smart Drivers and Windows 10 recognises the projector as an interactive device but wont let me select anything or open the start menu. I can move icons around on the desktop but double tapping them doesn't open the application.

 

Is there a setting I am missing?

Notebook 11 installs and runs fine with the exception that touch recognition/interaction is all sorts of goofball. We run into the same issues you're describing only with the old style boards. We don't have their interactive projectors. What I did to workaround was to shoehorn the 2014 drivers in after installing Smart 11. After that the interaction worked fine on the boards.

 

I can save you the hassle of trying to strip them out of the 2014 installer. I'll attach a zip that contains the actual drivers with the INFs. Just find the Smart interactive device in Device Manager and update the drivers with the attached. Works for us.
