I like that my home and work PC will just upgrade to the full version but it does seem like a bit of a silly move.

CAM Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Makes sense to me. Get everyone on your platform, make money via selling apps and future upgrades. This is the point where Microsoft will be looking to leverage their power in the Desktop OS market to get everyone into their own ecosystem to create a hefty demand for content creators. Currently the Windows Marketplace lacks apps, so users don't want to use it fuelling the lack of demand for apps.

I've heard it will incorporate a number of APIs that developers can start using from release, but will there be any other specific features that would distinguish it from e.g. Enterprise upon launch?

Presumably as there is such a big delay between win 10 and server 2016 there won't be any need to move from server 2012r2 to properly manage win 10 clients?

Since ADMX there hasn't been a need to move servers onto the same OS and your clients. You just import the new client ADMX files into the central store. Its been this way since 2008 ish. 1

Its been this way since 2008 ish. I've never had clients ahead of the server: moved from XP to 7, but was already running 2008r2. My experience was the whole shenanigans over managing ie11 with 2008r2, so I assumed it was their basic business model to make you upgrade everything at the same time

Its one of the better tings MS did in recent years.

That what it is designed for. For example I could edit Windows 8.1 group policies from a Server 2008 R2 server if I wanted. When you populate the central store that's where it picks up all the GP settings, not the local machine like it did on Server 2003.

Only Home and Pro will be available on 29/07/15. I wondered whether there will be other Windows 10 features Microsoft won't provide to Enterprise users on the LTSB. Because Windows 10 Enterprise won't be launching until some time this autumn, I'm hearing, Microsoft execs won't talk much about it. (It's Windows 10 Home and Pro editions that will be available starting 29 July to customers who opt into Microsoft's year-long first-year-free upgrade promotion.
