daveyboy Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 All, Seems that even though our staff are set as Mono users only in PaperCut, if they go into the driver properties of the photocopier and change from auto to colour (see piccy) They can print in colour - they do get billed for a colour print as well - but they are only in the Mono group & cannot colour copy standing at the machine.... Any ideas? or What am I missing? Thanks in advance...........
howartp Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Set up a Rule in Papercut to redirect the colour job to mono?
MatthewL Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Can I point you to this KB article. Also to restrict copying in colour use that same group created and with devices you can allow colour to the group in there if that makes sense. Also form a print point of view in the screenshot you have sent leave that as auto and in the main tab select B&W there if you select colour the machines won't auto detect what is mono and colour and if you have a page that is mono you will get charged colour for it on the machine therefore costing you more money. Any problems drop me a PM.
Big_Ted Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 You could install a dedicated B&W queue that uses a pure mono driver.
wardsidjame Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 We have this working so just a couple of things to check, on the printer ensure that the option for colour detection is set to page level, then we have the option in advanced set to convert to grey scale, this stops colour printing. We use the Sharp UD2 PCL6 as it is the driver communication that is how Papercut detects if it is colour or mono, it didnt work on standard detection.
MatthewL Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 The UD2 driver is pants, of you have a mix of Sharp machines use the one of the highest spec machine you have on that queue.
wardsidjame Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Its not an issue if they are wanting to put everyone on Mono, we use the UD2 for the general office which is mono then have a separate print que for those who need to use the enhanced features. Solves the issue of print level detection.
mikkydoos Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 This is a script that pops up a dialogue box asking if the user want to print a job in colour (yes) or mono (cancel)... You could modify it to print only in Mono for whichever devices -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /* * Color print jobs require user confirmation * * Color printing is expensive so users should be encouraged to print * in grayscale whenever they print in color. No confirmation is required * for grayscale jobs. */ function printJobHook(inputs, actions) { /* * This print hook will need access to all job details * so return if full job analysis is not yet complete. * The only job details that are available before analysis * are metadata such as username, printer name, and date. * * See reference documentation for full explanation. */ if (!inputs.job.isAnalysisComplete) { // No job details yet so return. return; } if (inputs.job.isColor) { /* Color job, ask the use if they want to print. The job cost is displayed * prominently to encourage users to consider black and white printing instead. */ var response = actions.client.promptPrintCancel( "This print job is color" + " and costs " + inputs.utils.formatCost(inputs.job.cost) + ". You can save money by printing the job in grayscale. " + "Press Print to Print in Colour. Press Cancel to convert to Greyscale", {"dialogTitle" : "Color print job", "dialogDesc" : "Consider printing in grayscale to reduce costs"}); if (response == "CANCEL" || response == "TIMEOUT") { // User did not respond, cancel the job and exit script. //actions.job.cancel(); actions.job.convertToGrayscale(); return; } } } --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
