AJWhite1970 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Hi What is the smallest (in relation to size) and preferably cheapest Windows 8 PC that I can purchase. Need a few fully functional Windows PC's to hide behind 40" TV screens. Can't use a Pi for this project as it has to run a 32bit Windows application rather than anything web based etc. These will be CCTV monitoring screens for HM, Site team etc. Thanks for any suggestions Andrew
pscott Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Intel Nuc's (Or asus rebadged version a bit cheaper) 1
pirran Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 +1 for NUC, the intel compute stick has fairly poor performace, although of course it depends exactly what you're asking it to do. I'd go with a low spec CPU version of an NUC ( Intel NUC Kit DC53427HYE: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories ) Ebuyer have them starting at sub 100 without OS. 1
chazzy2501 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I have used a windows 8 tablet, less than a £100 can be usb powered (from the TV) and have an hdmi output. Just double tape to the back. quad atom and full windows. 1
AJWhite1970 Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Thanks for the replies, I've ordered a barebones nuc from Amazon to have a play with. Not sure the stick os would be man enough to show multiple cctv feeds but they do look pretty cool for the cost!! Andrew
FN-GM Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 We are using the Dell Optiplex 3030 Micro for this job. Nice and small and can get great warranties. 1
dry Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 We used MeLe PCG03s for our digital signage... Quite low spec so be careful, but they're £120. The reason we went for them was because they were cheap, but also have a 10/100 ethernet port on the back. Have been working well so far. Mele PCG03 Windows 8.1 mini-HTPC - futeko.com - UK Based Android Box, Mini HTPC, XBMC, Miracast, Airplay, Airmice. 1
AJWhite1970 Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 Been playing with a Gigabyte Brix Ultra Compact PC and am very impressed. Added a SSD and 4Gb RAM to the bare bones kit, installed Windows 8.1 64bit and our CCTV software and it copes brilliantly with 12 simultaneous camera views. We'll be getting a few more of these next week to replace our aging pizza box PC's driving the info screens. Thanks for all the feedback in this thread Andrew
DCUK6 Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Just had a demo of the Lenovo tiny pc's. These things are solid and flatter than the Nuc's, they are wider though. Look so much more reliable and sturdy than the nucs.
ThinkLogic Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Hi Andrew, The Lenovo ThinkCentre M73 Tiny Form Factor is perfect for what you describe (just 4 x 4 x 1 Golf Balls in size) and available with i3, i5, and i7 Processors. We have i3 / 500GB HD / 4GB RAM available for £249+VAT and i5 / 500GB HD / 4GB RAM for £329+VAT. This pricing will only last whilst we have the current stock as Lenovo's pricing has increased. Please call me if I can be of further assistance.
Oaktech Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I'm using these... http://www.ict-direct.co.uk/computers/desktop-computers/hp/ultra-small-desktop/dc7900-usdt.html They work fine with w8.1 on them straight out of the box. The drivers for the odd intel bits are available directly from intel.
