QNAP Firmware

Hi,

 

Has anyone had any issues with the latest firmware release? Just done my 469 box to 4.13 20150408 and its needed hard resetting twice in the past week, no access to the GUI or the network. QNAP support reckon its because 2 disks are failing (which is wrong as they have been replaced months ago and all is green) but my argument is why would the box fail if drives fail anyway...

I upgraded ours to that release last Friday and i've not seen any issues. We had a power cut yesterday and the school was closed, and the UPS didn't last for as long as the power was down - so this may have given it a reboot if it required one.

Not seen any problems with our 269 or the 453. Had a weird problem with a 219pii 3 years ago which randomly rebooted due to a UPS incompatibility - fixed with a firmware upgrade. Otherwise all the 6 qnaps I support are rock solid (tempting fate?)

I have been trying to get an answer for 3 days from tech support now. If the disks are showing failure should this cause the box to become unresponsive or randomly reboot? All I am getting back is that 2 disks are showing signs of failure.

 

I am putting in some new WD from the recommended list to see if that helps.

Depending on the failure, yes it can cause the symptoms you describe. I don't know 100% in the case of QNAP, but usually the OS for these NAS systems is on an hidden partition either on the first disk or RAID'd across the disk.

 

Drive failure will cause slow down on any RAID array anyway since the controller needs to rely on the checksums to make up the missing data.

Upgrade both my TS-119P II and TS-420 to this 6 or 7 days ago and no issues reported. To be honest I only use my TS-420 to back the PC up to at the moment and a bit of image dumping and its been solid.

After lots of back and forth and reinstalling the firmware I got this reply this morning.

 

As per our technical team confirmation, this is a ISCSI bug. We are fixing this issue 4.1.4 firmware. It will release in 1.~1.5months time frame approximately. Please wait for it.

 

I backtracked to the older firmware and it works perfectly.

 

My symptoms were that the QNAP hosted some ISCI drives which connected to a HYPER-V server and hosted non critical clients... an old server 2003 running helpdesk etc... When the unit failed it just lost all connections and the NIC stopped working. I had to hard reboot the unit which caused the RAID 5 to resync (5 hours). When I tried to start the HYPER-V client is started a merge, got to 20% then the unit dies again.

 

Changed 2 drives thinking that was the issue.
