Stopping Sign in to iTunes Store message

I've configured our iPads using Apple configurator and I'm getting a popup asking to sign in to the Apple Store. How can I stop this as all apps are installed using configurator so I don't need or want to use the store?

It looks as though someone has bought some apps on the device using their own Apple ID as personal apps can sit side by side with ones pushed out using Configurator, the email address you have blocked out should give you a clue as to who did this.

 

I would wipe the iPad, with the Supervise profile you have in Configurator ensuring that only configurator pushes apps in the future.

I see and yes you are correct, iMovie was installed using the store last year which I had forgotten about. iMovie is free but I needed a code to install it through configurator and it took Apple 2 weeks to sort it out so I was forced to use the store as the app was needed quickly.

 

So if I use configurator and only allow configurator installed apps will the popup disappear?

Yes as long as you supervise the iPad, and tick the box in Configurator preferences that says "remove profiles and apps not installed by Configurator"

We've just started to support a local primary school and this is happening on nearly all of their devices. We know the password for the appleID setup and when entered it stops prompting - it's just an absolute pain we've got 80 iPads to sort. As far as I know no new apps have been installed, it's either started to happen since the recent iOS8.3 upgrade or because apps are sitting in the AppStore needing updates.

This is down to apps being installed using an Apple ID on the device, iPads being managed via Configurator should not have any signed in details, if you refresh iPads with the quoted preference above ticked any apps not installed by configurator are removed from the iPads.

They aren't using an MDM or have used Apple Configurator. These have just been set as standalone devices. The e-mail address that appears is the only one that apps have been purchased under.

Oh dear......managing these will be a nightmare, I feel your pain.

 

If the school have used one Apple ID then all the apps belong to that ID, completely breaking the rules for iOS apps for education used iPads.

 

Best suggestion would be to get them enrolled into an MDM, you could use something free like Meraki if you are familiar with this. On top of this the iPads are unlikely to have any restrictions on them so the kids can log into or create facebook, Twitter and Vimeo accounts. Apps can be deleted by them so you have to reinstall them again using the Apple ID. If one of them puts a passcode on the iPad there is no way to clear this other than to completely erase it and restore using an iTunes backup.

It's on the list of recommendations to put to the school, we currently use Airwatch in our school and have previously used Meraki. So we are are aware of the benefits of an MDM. I've just got to confidence the HT that the current setup isn't fit for purpose.
