Toshiba Satellite Pro keyboards

Hi folks,

 

We've got a few charging trolley's worth of Toshiba Satellite Pro laptops - some C50-A-15Q and some C850-10W

 

Probably about 1 in 4 of these laptops have had a number of keys helpfully ripped from the keyboard making them very difficult to use effectively; some impossible.

 

Does anyone know of a reliable supplier for replacement keyboards? A quick google search only reveals ebay and amazon sellers. Was hoping to use somewhere a bit more personable and school-friendly if possible.

Misco could and have supplied me in the past, but they have never been as cheap as ebay. So we buy from ebay.

We get all our replacement keyboards from amazon, Haven't had any issues or problems with them.

I use CBC as well, never had any issues, prices are high but thats Toshiba not CBC.

We've purchased them from a third party in the past via softcat due to our Local Authority not trusting us with a credit card.

Keys pop back on as easy as they pop off once you have the knack, might be possible to make complete keyboards out of the part ones.

At my last place, they seemed to focus on removing particular keys. It was cheaper to buy individual keys than whole keyboards for these.

Last one I had the key, I had the bracket thing underneath....the rubber stop that makes it return was missing! and this was a teacher laptop. Fixed with a blob of blutack instead of rubber! Teacher didn't want down time of not having laptop while keyboard swapped so happy with short term fix. Works just key does not bounce up when pressed. Heath Robinson but needs must!

The rubber stop can be peeled off a dead keyboard and placed in the circle of the plastic clip underneath. The key holds it in place.

I've done 100s like this.

But only if I have a dead keyboard/laptop to use! Unfortunatly this happened the week after we just got shut of all the old stuff!

Michael Hinchliffe at Misco always comes up with the goods for us at a reasonable price as well.

 

The good thing with the Toshiba Sat Pro is the keyboard is a nice easy one to swap out. Mind in general I detest laptops for classroom use, staff constantly fail to supervise acceptable use and therefore the flipping things end up with mangled cables or other damage and then there's the batteries that invariably need replacing before the machine is past its best.

 

I just can't understand why the message never gets through that laptops are just not up to the job - especially in a school like mine where our students are KS3/4 emotionally and behaviourally special needs!
