The migration tool will install Express if you select New instance, but you should be able to pick your 2012 SIMS instance from the drop down list

 

I can't believe my LEA have now opened a call with Capita!

 

We have raised a case with Capita to confirm that the SQL migration tool is for express versions only as in our experience it is.

 

 

All I want to do is get hold of the utility

I have a copy of the utils for both 2012 and 2014, but they might have been updated since I got them off the capita site in December, and we're not really meant to share them =/

 

But it does work happily with express or with full version depending on the drop down selection.

With regards the TCP I'll try and remember what I did unless someone gets back before me.

We have shared memory, TCP/IP and Named Pipes all enabled. You can get away with only tcp/ip i think, but better to keep named pipes enabled, as i don't think it harms.

I used to have them listed in client protocols as tcp/ip as 1, then named pipes, but i just looked and shared memory is at the top which it has to be if enabled as it's for local use. Never really noticed any difference to be honest.

I'd go with enable both and make sure TCP/IP is listed first.

Just noticed our Named pipes are disabled still on our 2014 install, so I might get round to fixing that at the end of the week, although it's been running since December without any complaints.... oh well

Things have moved on since yesterday and I've agreed for the sum of £200 that the LEA are going to send someone to site to migrate our SIMS DB from the old to new server....

Nice, that was certainly cheaper than Capita charged us 2 years ago to migrate our DB to a new server. Saves all the headaches on your side and means any issues is there fault
