abillybob Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Hey Guys Are Kyocera photocopiers any good? We are looking at some new photocopiers for the school. I need it to be compatible with PaperCut and for it to be VERY robust. Anybody had experience with this make as I've never heard of it before? Cheers
Sagima Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 My only experience with them was about 10-15 years ago when my company at the time replaced their old HPs with Kyocera printers as they were more economical to run. Probably had an engineer out about once a week to deal with one of the 40 or so we had. I imagine a lot has changed since then though. Not had any experience with their copiers but we have about Ricoh copiers (with papercut) and they get an engineer visiting one of them each week during term time although my reprographics people tell me that isn't a huge amount it certainly seems like they break a lot based on that. Once the engineer told us the copier was jamming because the prints had "too much colour" on them. Now we have a sign up telling staff not to print such documents
mikkydoos Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Tell you I was very surprised at Sharp copiers - They're excellent. Oce are good too. Ricoh - NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO. Do not.
MatthewL Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Kyocera are PaperCut compatible but would recommend Sharp any day over Kyocera. Sharp do a lot straight out the box and from an IT point of view I think they are more advanced than any other machines out there. If your looking at using in a print room style environment where you are selling then look at Xerox or Toshiba as they are slightly higher quality machines and designed for it but Sharp will do the majority.
Marc_EduTech Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 We've currently got a mixture of Canon and Konica devices which work perfectly well with the Papercut system. The Canon's are varying in age, and so some do require rather frequent engineer visits (once every two/three weeks). These require add-on kits to allow proximity card functionality, with a rather clunky Papecut touch screen and card reader. I'm assuming Canon provide inbuilt versions, but our copiers aren't compatible. The Konica devices are relatively new (last July), however I can only remember one instance of having an engineer on site to repair anything. The proximity reader is inbuilt to these copiers, and works a charm. I'd assume other companies operate the same system too, however the Konica's are able to report back to their head office, and toner/staples etc are automatically ordered/delivered within appropriate time. Having said that, ours isn't working at the moment...
mikkydoos Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Also, look up a company called Midshire Business Systems. We use their West Midlands branch and their service is second to none.... thumbs up from me
sonofsanta Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Surprised at the troubles with Ricohs; 3 of our 4 copiers on site are Ricoh and they're excellent, both reliable and user friendly. If they do break down there's a very good service level agreement on them - something like 4 hour response time, 95% first fix within 2 hours, 98% uptime in a quarter.
Harry_Small_ Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 We have 4 of these printers and have a technician out at least once every two weeks...
jimmy_2k Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Kyocera, good solid bit of hardware but the software isn't very good. I had some in my last school and the software was always having problems, loosing IPs and crashing during big print jobs.
abillybob Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 Cheers guys for all the help and suggestions! So overall can people please recommend what brand of photocopier has caused them the least problems?
mikkydoos Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Sharp for me imo - avoid Ricoh like the plague tbh, you should be able to get a copier on trial from any decent supplier
FN-GM Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Tell you I was very surprised at Sharp copiers - They're excellent. Oce are good too. Ricoh - NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO. Do not. I wish I could say the same thing. The engineer's are in a few times a week for ours. He even has his own ID badge!
jimmy_2k Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 My Sharp's aren't too bad though they do get heavily used in some areas as you would expect.
Jamman960 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 We had a nightmare with the 2 Kyocera copiers we had, had engineers out weekly although I think the service company were more to blame Replaced all our copiers with 5 Toshiba's and have had 3 service calls since September
