witch Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Now, I know this is VERY unlikely, but having just heard about a local school that has upgraded to 17" TFTs and GIVEN THE OLD 15" ONES TO STUDENTS!!!!! - I had to put a plea on Edugeek Is anyone (and I may be looking at you independent school lot!) thinking of getting rid of any screens? We are running a deficit budget here and managed to get some very nice machines from another edugeeker,(thanks Allan) but now we need some screens as the CRTs look dreadful and are starting to fail anyway. As I say - I know this is unlikely but if anyone is in reach of Dorset (and I can reach a fairly long way) please get in touch.
dhicks Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Not free, but we got 15" TFTs for £30 each from http://www.re-sales.net/. Their related company, Seek-IT, runs some kind of IT equipment swap service - see http://www.seek-it.co.uk/it-exchange.html. -- David Hicks

Are they actually allowed to do that? I was under the impression old equipment cannot be given to students.
tech_guy Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 The only thing most students should be given is a good thumping....
witch Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 Well they did - my friend's son walked in with 2 while I was there and she rang to confirm it was OK. http://www.re-sales.net don't have anything at the moment but I will keep an eye out
Edu-IT Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Well they did - my friend's son walked in with 2 while I was there and she rang to confirm it was OK. What would happen if he took the monitors home, plugged them in and they blew up causing a fire? Would the school be responsible for supplying him with them? I suppose it's only the same as buying a second hand monitor through eBay.
plock Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 We have moved over to a new site just recently, well about 12 months ago! The whole old site was wiped completely. We've moved from being in the LEA to now being privately funded. When we moved across to the Academy we had the opportunity to buy any kit the predecessor school had, we took some of the latest servers we had purchased and so forth. All the other schools within the LEA were given first pick at the old kit from the site, all the rest was sold onto parents or the community. Not sure what the policies are for schools doing this themselves though?
russdev Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 As long as the person signs and takes full legal responsibility for it then no problem on school. Russell
