@ Geoff

I've hunted around for the release date but looks like microsoft are keeping that to them selfs. I think its going to be jan 2008. Some people seem to think it was leaked last year.

Is there a release date yet?

For TechNet subscribers, Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 1 is now available for download. Windows XP SP3 will be a rollup that includes all previously released updates for Windows XP, including security updates, out-of-band releases, and hotfixes. It contains a small number of new updates, but should not significantly change the Windows XP experience.

They say Q1 which gives them scope to push it back if they feel they need to antagonise XP users a bit more. As it's mainly a collection of tested patches it really should be a matter of weeks after RC especially as it doesn't include IE7 quite a few places still haven't deployed IE7 so MS would make a few people V unhappy if they forced it on them.

I take it with NAP there will be some ADMs to DL and install for 2003 server....

Just checking and I can't locate any in my Technet....

Why do MS make things so god darn hard to locate..........

Yep i can't wait we use RIS to deploy XP SP2 we slipstreamed a few updates in like Windows Installer 3 and BITS 2.0 but i can't be bothered with all 88 but it's taking longer and longer to pull all the updates from WSUS after install. I'll be updating the images to SP3 asap well after testing of course :-)

You need to use something to slipstream the updates. I havent done ours for ages but I only need 40 odd after RIS.

"we slipstreamed a few updates in like Windows Installer 3 and BITS 2.0 "

We used the standard MS switches on the RIS server and it updates the image, i just can't be bothered to write a qchain file to do them all with SP3 near.

Well i installed it and so far i've not had any problems.

It did seem to launch a couple of command windows when i logged on after a reboot, not really sure what it was doing but i wonder how they would of coped if i'd used a restricted account rather than a local admin.

I do see an Event ID 10016 ater each reboot i'm not sure what that is yet

DCOM

User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

{DCBCA92E-7DBE-4EDA-8B7B-3AAEA4DD412B}

to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Also,

Rasman

Event ID 825

The Network Access Protection (NAP) enforcement client failed to register with the Network Access Protection Agent (NAPAgent) service. Some network services or resources might not be available. If the problem persists, disconnect and retry the remote access connection or contact the administrator for the remote access server.

I assume that's because i don't have a 2008 server with NAP running.

oh and Live Messenger had to go through a repair process.

A blocking tool is available for organizations that would like to temporarily prevent installation of Service Pack updates through Windows Update. This tool can be used with:

* Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (valid through March, 2008)

* Windows XP Service Pack 3 (valid for 12 months following general availability)

* Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (valid for 12 months following general availability)
