Ranger Outpost

Hi

 

Is anyone using a Ranger outpost facility for accessing files from home? For students and Teachers?

How good is it? Would you recommend it?

 

And also does it allow a network manager to remote control the server from home?

We use Outpost to give staff and students access to Home folders, General Resources and Staff Inboxes (for handing in work).

 

It works nicely with no hassles on setup. Just open the relevant port on the schools firewall through to the server it runs on. It creates the client .exe file for your users to run on their PCs. Easy peasy.

 

It doesn't give you full access to your servers for admin purposes though - just to the set directories.

We use it and have done for about 6 months now. It is a good package for students to access there home drives but it will only work on xp, (still no sign of vista support!).

 

It will only allow file access, so im afraid remote control of your server is out also.
