Harry1980 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Hi All, I was wonder if anyone can help me out. At home I am trying to have the TV output through my home cinema system but doesn't seem to work. I have an LG Smart TV and a Sony Bluray Home Cinema system. I have both connect together with HDMI cable and Optical Cable. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in Advance
LeMarchand Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Not sure you necessarily need both cables. IIRC when I did mine (Samsung TV to Yamaha) there was something in the TV's sound menu to specify output all sound via optical. What model TV?
Harry1980 Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) TV model is LG Smart 3D 47LB70. I have checked the side of the TV and it has 3 HDMI (HDMI in 1 (ARC), HDMI in 2, HDMI in 3 (HML)), 3 USB Ports and PCMCIA Card Slot. The Sony Cinema sound system has 1 HDMI out ARC, 1 Digital Optical In and Audio In R and L. I have my Sky connected to the TV in HDMI 1 port and the Sony system in HDMI 2 port. Do I need to switch the connection to the TV from HDMI port 2 to HDMI port 1 which has the ARC label? Also I have the sony system connected to the TV with Digital Optical cable. LeMarchand Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 There seems to be some discussion over whether HDMI > Optical, but for your setup I don't think it will make a difference. Purely to maximize spare HDMI ports, I'd try removing the "HDMI 2" cable and using optical. You'll also need to set the sound output as below (assuming I found the correct manual!). If no joy, try: Sony - HDMI 1 Sky - HDMI2 and remove the optical (you may need to check the settings in the picture above).
newpersn Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) HDMI carries both picture and digital sound. Take the Optical feed from the TV down to the surround sound feed. (one way to test if the receiver picks up Dolby Digital is to change to a HD Movie channel as this will pick up a digital Audio Feed. --------------------- Or take the feed from the sky box to the surround sound... nwkeene Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Yes, you'll need to use the HDMI labelled ARC to feed TV sound back to the home cinema setup. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel... So use HDMI 1 on the TV for the connection to the Home Cinema System. I use a Panasonic Smart TV fed from my Sony AV amp. Everything else (PS3, HD Recorder, HTPC etc) all feed to the Amplifier. Hope That Helps...
Harry1980 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Hi Guys, Got it working, it was a sound setting on the TV. I left the cable setup as it is. Many thanks for you help. Much appreciated........
