No Network Access on Server

Hi

 

We have a Firewall server with 2 network cards in -- 1 internal 1 external

 

Its been plugged into a plusnet router and it picks up and IP and works fine.

 

I've changed it into a virgin router but it just says "No network access".

 

The superhub works with other dhcp clients like laptops and other servers.

 

Any thoughts please? I'm thinking some compatibility issue between superhub and the network card. I've tried a 2nd network card -- it does the same -- i'm tempted to try an Intel one as apposed to a cheap one.

I guess the server has a static IPs on both Internal and External, is it on same network range as the Virgin routers LAN settings??

Have you tried

 

- rebooting the superhub while the network cable is plugged in

- Double check you're using a crossover cable

Its a static on the internal but DHCP on the external.

@win I'll give them a go -- not used a crossover cable on the others though and it works ? I've used the same cable as I did on the others.

It doesn't look like its picking an IP Address up from the router

That is a bit weird, but I'm not sure why you'd need a cross over cable. The hub is a 4 port switch, so any standard cable should work. I presume the previous router and the new router are still using the standard class C range, or are they different - 192.168.0.1 vs. 192.168.1.1? Do you have any VLANs configured?

I forgot those superhubs have switches. Some routers - usually for leased lines require a crossover cable but superhubs have a built in switch so any cable will work. You can try a static on the external as well by logging into the superhub and reserving an IP address (relate it to the MAC address of the external nic)

The only other thing I can think of is if the mode has been forced on the server NIC, when it should be set to auto.
