Server 2012R2/SCCM New Install

In the next week or so I will be configuring a new server for a small off site centre we are setting up (approx 30 users). This will be the first time I have installed a domain server myself (our main school servers are configured and managed by our LA). Can anyone recommend a step by step guide I can look through to make sure I don't miss anything crucial. I will also be looking to setup SCCM on this server so any guides to do this would be helpful aswell.

Im not sure you want ad and sccm on the same box.

I dont have links handy atm I'm on mobile.

 

Your key services will be ad dns and dhcp.

 

Have you considered virtual servers, hyperv?

We don't have the budget for more than one physical server. HyperV may be an option we can go with however is there likely to be any performance increase going this route when we are only talking a minimum number of users/devices that will be connecteing to it?

SCCM shouldn't be put on the same box as AD - it isn't a supported setup (in fact, I don't know if the installer would even let you).

 

Virtualise atop the single box would be my advice. It won't increase performance, but it will prevent major issues.

Something else to consider, will this site be connected to your main site over a wan link?

If so look into read only domain controllers, branch cache, and you could presage your image content on bookable flash drive. Then you can manage everything from the main site.

The sites are connected on a WAN but it is the LA's WAN and LA managed servers at the main site so I think it would be too much of a headache linking the two considering the only user accounts that are likely to be used at both sites are two or three staff users, pupil's will be permanently based over there so only need accounts on the off site centre server. I think I will be going with the recomendation of using two VMs on the one box for this setup.

 

Does anyone have any recommended links to step by step instructions on setting up domain controllers/SCCM?

Portal - www.windows-noob.com probably has the best sccm 2012 setup guide. they seem to have a lot of server guides but I've only ever referred to the sccm ones.
