We're looking to do something similar at this point.....but we have a vast number of our network points which have just had an RJ45 connector crimped onto the end of the cable and then plugged directly into the switch!

I suppose all is not lost though - you can cut and patch it in, but it's anyone's guess as to what it's feeding.
