Yosemite Load Issue

Hello,

 

I have a suite of Macs all running Yosemite. Random machines fail to boot, the apple logo appears with the loading bar, which gets half way and freezes. It is so annoying as the full room can boot then the next time 2 or 3 will freeze.

 

 

I've updated the firmware using https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1618?locale=en_GB which I thought may solve it but it is still doing the same randomly.

 

The only solution is to hold the power button and reboot, but sometimes you need to do that a few times.

 

Any suggestions?

I had this problem,

thankfully we only have one mac, seems to be linked to when your mac is connected to the AD

so removed it from AD binding and just linked the shares that the head needed

works fine now, although does seem slower than mavrick

Have you tried clearing the Pram in case it's that

I've seen this a few times in the past. Most cases booting up into the Recovery Drive - Hold the Option Key (ALT) - and running disk utility to repair disk permissions fixes the issue.

Let us know how you get on Rob......I didn't try this just asked users to hold down ALT for the time being if they see the dreaded grey sticking bar.

I've never known ever running disk permissions fixes to fix anything on a mac ( or resetting PRAM) but maybe that's just me. Yeh I wish I'd not put Yosemite on our 2008 Imacs now. Thank god we only did 3!

I had this problem a few weeks ago with machines on 10.9. Reseting the Pram fixed the issue for me.

This is an on-going issue with 10.10 Macs, normally when connected to an LDAP service like AD.

Going to be working on this issue this afternoon when i'm back at the site. I'm going to go down the route of SMC and NVRAM resets initially as these seem the easiest options and I don't want to get too technical if I dont need to.

 

A few reboots of the machines will give me an indication if its a fix as we usually have 2 or 3 each lesson that don't boot.

Single User Mode

Cmd - S at boot.

Ctrl-x to exit

save file

 

type reboot to restart.

 

Apparently going to be fixed in 10.10.3

I've been having this very issue as well. The quick fix was to start the computer in "Safe Mode" (hold down left shift key on startup). Once you get to the login window restart the computer.

 

I've had this issue all week and now woking on a new updated image to see if I can correct this. We are also using AD for user authentication.
