Limit Concurrent Windows log in

I'm looking at a way of preventing staff/Students from logging into multiple windows machines at the same time. I've looked at RSLoginLimit which works well but doesn't log off the last used machine, only the one your trying to log into.

 

I contacted Userlock as this seemed to tick all the boxes only to find this to be way too expensive for a school that has over 1400 machines. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I was looking at the exact same thing. Just got a quote from ISLock, its for a perpetual licence but still £3k is a lot of money for 500 devices!

Hi we have a homegrown solution , happy to share it... Basically

 

User logs in and a text file is written to a hidden share -and deleted on log off , 2nd logins fail with an error saying that they are already logged in and logs them off....

 

We are a pretty large sixth form and have about 3-5 a day of "I forgot to logoff" which my two technicians clear the login by rebooting the machine remotely or just deleting the file.

HAP gives the user an option to log off the session on the other machine meaning their login can continue.

What server version are you using with CConnect?

2008 R2 and 2012 R2 DC's. From memory it just adds 1 logon to a database and takes it off at logoff, all via logon/logoff scripts. If a user tries to logon onto another computer then it will logoff the second logon and quickly display the initial computer name they are logged onto.

There was an MS utility called Limit Logon, but I don't think Microsoft offer any support and offer it 'as is'. I think it uses an Access DB from memory. Userlock's ace if you've got the cash and works via MMC.

Ah yes.. It doesn't come cheap. But what we get out of it justifies it's price..
