Thought as much, just thought I'd check - I found the documentation and the warranty ran out last November, nothing in the pot to replace it.

 

Any recommendations for a replacement ?

The APC units are good kit, I would just look at replacement batteries

 

If you get chance when school is finished, run a calibration test on it. This will place it into failover mode until batteries run out, and then will report back with how long they would last.

 

I would suggest if there is no money at the moment stress how important a UPS is as well all know.

 

Quite often UPS batteries fail because they are randomly used and also kept on charge, those SLAB batteries need cycling now and again to keep them fresh otherwise they fail. As a matter of course I run a Calibration test every fortnight and I current have 2 Smart 1500's with 2 1/2 year old batteries that still work perfectly

 

Just to give you an idea on price, APC UPS 3000 BATTERY (RBC43) - www.misco.co.uk

 

Worth checking correct models of course and finding and good price/supplier. You can buy 3rd party batteries but personally I would steer clear.

I'm looking at trade ins too on the APC website for a like for like and more modern hardware comes to about 1k

If you go that route you would get the latest kit as you say. However as you are not using monitoring software or network based features for multiple devices cannot see the benefit of 1k over say £200, depends how old you unit is of course.

Warranty wouldn't have covered battery replacement anyway.

I found the service certification and this battery has been going since November 2011...

You can hot swap the batteries on this too. As said above I don't think there's much need to replace the entire unit unless you're having other problems with it.

Yup, I got the replacement and hotswapped it, apart from the battery light not going out for a while it seems to be fine now

By sheer total coincidence, one of the sites phases blew at the weekend (not the one that supplies the server room) but the whole site had to be taken down. I would've had a silly busy morning if I hadn't replaced the battery when I did!

@caffrey To clear the battery warning light, either wait for a self test (once every two weeks I think), or press and hold the power on button for about 5 seconds to force a self test.

Nice video, fun replacing them isn't it I just had to wait for the light to go out, the batteries must've been partially discharged - even after the self test the light didn't go out

What a timely thread!

 

Popped in to the server room this morning and was greeted by beeping and flashing lights!

 

Anybody got a decent supplier of batteries for this or is it only recommended to be replaced with original manufacturer supplied batteries?

I bought a battery for the 750xl from a company called AMC. I think the battery was about £130 and AMC will collect the old battery for free.

 

It might be worth getting on to the AMC site and finding the right RBC number as i got the wrong one when i did a quick search on the net.

Have you ever had to make a warranty claim on a flubbited item? Just wondering what the SP was. Whenever I've tried, the saving wasn't enough to accept a possibly iffy warranty. (Plus the experience of one seller accepting my money and then claiming no stock but then responding to a second flubit rather soured the experience for me).

If its mission critical (which I would say yes) get originals from one of the channel suppliers or your preferred main hardware supplier. If they have access to the channel they will be able to get one next day. I would say from last doing a 1000 it was around 60 of your great british pounds

 

Places such as ebay and amazon are littered with fakes
