Novalee Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Does anyone know of the settings? Have just been quoted £1:35 per 'brittle sticker' to security mark them, but we have a laser cutter and could simply engrave them with our details. However, don't want to get it wrong!!
gsk Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Would it be worth getting a replacement to try it on? NEW IPAD 3 A1416 WIFI REPLACEMENT BATTERY COVER CASE HOUSING BACK 16GB UK SELLER | eBay How many iPads do you have? IMO it would look brilliant and actually be a good deterrent because those stickers or etching liquids are either removable or ugly.
chazzy2501 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I use our laser cutter here. Just use some paper it should cut through 80gsm but not card. For us on out laser cutter it's full power BUT at full speed. Unsure? cut a coke can up and burn that. (make sure it doesn't cut through) Are you going to use a vector image or a bitmap? (Vector is better spend a few hours in corel draw making a new logo if you have too)
synaesthesia Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Please let me know how it goes. I'm actually partially interested in this myself, however on the other hand I would *love* to see someone cut through a whole iPad with a laser. 1
PotNoodleTech Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) The kind of laser engraver you have at school won't cut an ipad in half. Like chazzy I've used 100% power at 100% speed and it gives a perfect result. This depends on your laser engraver though - if it's a particularly small / weak one you may need to slow down the laser to get a longer deeper burn. Only way to know for sure is to try it - luckily I had a broken/dropped old ipad so tried in on that and it worked nice. Ps - the same settings you use for the ipad will also engrave through the paint on your PCs to give a nicely permanent very professional looking silver asset tag/security mark Once thing I aint tried yet is plastic - e.g TFT monitors. I'll give that one a go. Edited March 5, 2015 by PotNoodleTech
synaesthesia Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Can you not spoil my fun, @AButters? We've all seen them blended and shot from point blank, but lasers are techy fun!

Just got pictures in my head of the old laser cutter we had back in my mechanical engineering days. It could easily cut through 6mm steel so an iPad will be no problem but probably unusable afterwards
